Raising Forum Limits?

Any way we could get the limit raised on numbers of characters allowed in a signature and the number of images allowed in a single post?

Re: Raising Forum Limits?

Yes, both request are challenge related.

Maybe 3-4k for signature or just keep the 2k limit and have it not include BB code as adding up towards that limit.

And while 150 would be the sweet spot for challenges image limit wise I could live with 75.

Re: Raising Forum Limits?

Can you give me an example of a sig that's at/near the limit?

Also, what's the current limit on pics/post?

I'm sure the OP's sig is near the limit.

I've had to constantly tweak mine to keep it under the limit.

Yes I have had to trim my signature because I hit the limit recently and adding one more challenge link will put me over the limit. I cut out my link to Flickchart and Changed DVD/BR Spending Tab to just spending tab in order to fit my new Drive in challenge link.

36 is the current image limit on posts I believe

Re: Raising Forum Limits?

Wondering why you still need links to challenges an other stuff that are as much as 8 years old in your sig.

They are super handy and even if no one else clicks them I use them a lot. Also I find that if I like someone's list/review style and they have links to other challenges in their sig I will chick out their other lists.

Re: Raising Forum Limits?

I get that but at some point you have to consolidate stuff.

Put the links in your browser and bookmark them and delete the old stuff that's 7 and 8
Years old.

I agree with the image limit.

For review threads if you want to star movies and shows individually, you can't.

Just because it holds no interest for you doesn't make it worthless.

And I did not understand this last sentence of yours.

Re: Raising Forum Limits?

Where did I say worthless?

I suggested using a bookmark in your browser instead of using your sig as a book mark placemark.

The other thing refers to a list thread. You can only make a series of stars from 1 to whatever, 5 for example then list your movies under that.

I woukd rather list them in order viewed and put the stars next to the movie title.

I am going to guess you don't participate in the challenges, yes?

Re: Raising Forum Limits?

I'd suggest appealing to VinVega and have the mod team review possibly changing the limits. I believe the sig is probably big enough; the limit is primarily to keep threads from being too big/messy.

As to the image limit per post... probably another thing for the mods to discuss.

I have a discussion going on amongst the mods about this request. I'll let you know when we have a ruling.

Re: Raising Forum Limits?

One thought is to take out the "20" in the year listings (2013, 2014) and use '13, '14 or just 13, 14, and so on.

I know one of the forum rules about keeping signatures short is so they aren't distracting or taking up too much real estate. But does the character cap also pertain to whatever is put in spoiler tags? And if so, does the code for the spoiler tag count toward those characters?

I also agree with the other person who said to use bookmarks for those for your own purposes.

The problem is that all of the formatting coding, including spoiler tags, counts against the character limit. So one could have a signature that looks at least three times larger than mine, for example.

Re: Raising Forum Limits?

I've upped the number of characters in a sig from 90 to 200. Remember the rule stating 5 lines per signature is still in affect, regardless of how many characters you use.

ABSOLUTELY NO:
• Signature lengths greater than five (5) lines. As a courtesy to fellow users utilizing low screen resolutions and/or slow Internet connection speeds, those users who append signatures to their forum posts must keep the total length of their signature to a length of five lines or less.
The Rules

I've also upped the number of pictures per post from 35 to 60. We'll see how these changes go.

Re: Raising Forum Limits?

Thank you kind sir.

Still getting this error on the signature though

"Your signature cannot be longer than 2000 characters including BB code markup."

Re: Raising Forum Limits?

Found something in the group manager. I changed max characters from 2000 to 4000. Try again SterlingBen.
