Profile Page Not Correctly Linked
I'm also having profile problems, and I didn't even have a name change. When I go to mine, it says "This user has not registered and therefore does not have a profile to view."
<!-- / main error message --><!-- <input type="submit" class="button" value="Go Back" accesskey="s" onclick="history.back(1); return false" />
-->

Profile Page Not Correctly Linked
I discovered yesterday that my profile URL misdirected to another profile. I reported it in the Change User Name thread, thinking it was related since that's the most obvious thing that's happened to my account recently. I just checked it again and it misdirects now to a different account than the one it misdirected to yesterday when I first reported it. Since benedict has locked the other thread, I thought to start this one.
You can see the URL that should link to my profile page, which is clearly not the profile page that shows.

Hi TSME,
I locked the name-change thread when the opportunity for changes under the "amnesty" was over. Anyway, as soon as you raised it in the namechange discussion thread I can confirm that I escalated your report.
We have determined that the answer is... it is entirely your fault
Yes... you asked for the final period after your "Esq" and that seems to be the root cause of the problem.
Shame on you!
Well, I removed the dot and it now seems that (er) you have now joined the ranks of the "not recognised"
So... maybe it was just a period problem, or maybe there is a wider glitch in the matrix - as per the other post on the topic from someone not falling within the ranks of the Name Changed.
We'll keep you posted! Thank you, in advance, for your patience and understanding.

Ha! If it helps, I'm fine with dropping the "Esq." entirely. It doesn't fit on the same line as my name and looks a bit tackier here than it does on Twitter anyway.

Re: Profile Page Not Correctly Linked
Hi DHJJ,
For the reasons that I've already mentioned, especially as non-changers seem to be included, I don't know for sure whether the name change is a root cause. However, the use of special characters certainly does seem to have an impact.
Any I am told in particular that, with the default settings, a username ending in a non-alphanumeric counter confuses vBSEO into looking for the first username it can find that ends with something non-alphanumeric.
There is a fix but it is for IB to look into so I've told Paul. (And removed your dot which I hope is OK).

After removing the "Esq." title, I no longer misdirect. Now, I have no profile because I "[have] not registered"!

Yes, TSM, that is what I noted in my original response.
You are in the same boat as both Obi-wan and now DHJJ.
However, on the plus side, from what I can see, none of this is affecting your ability to post and use the forums so I hope you will bear with IB while they get to the root of the matter.

Re: Profile Page Not Correctly Linked
I think I know the answer to this question: SYMBOLS in user names.
at the IB sister site I used to work at, a glitch came into the system with an update that redirected anyone's user profile to a random, different person's profile if they had a dash in their name. People in here complaining all have symbols, periods, etc.
At the other site, this issue never got fixed, and it drove a few people away because they saw their issues weren't considered worth fixing.

Hi NB,
Yes, I mentioned the symbols in my original report and the initial response seemed to bear this out.
As well as a potential software fix at the IB end, it could simply be that the symbols could be removed...
I suppose it depends how important it is to the individual.
[TSM has already given his answer in that regard

Re: Profile Page Not Correctly Linked
The solution is:
Users may either change their username to remove non-alphanumeric symbols (they can have a-z and 0-9 only), or they can live with the broken profile link.

Re: Profile Page Not Correctly Linked
I'd prefer to keep the dash if possible, and I'd hope to still see it fixed at some point, as I've never had this problem until recently, and I use the same name on several other VB boards without problem.

Re: Profile Page Not Correctly Linked
You can certainly keep it. As to a fix, I'm not aware of one. This just sort of happens sometimes, and removing punctuation seems to be the only way to cure it. Sorry about that, fellow Obi.

]Since I am also seeing the same error for the user The Man with the Golden Doujinshi
It may also happen based on length of the name.

Here are some manual links to the correct profile pages:
http://forum.dvdtalk.com/members/dr....jones,-jr.html
http://forum.dvdtalk.com/members/travis-s.-mcclain.html
You just have to add back in the punctuation that vbseo is stripping out.
Sorry, can't figure one out for Obi-Wan Jabroni.
I guess if IB were feeling really generous, they could add in some manual redirects for those users. Something like:
Redirect /members/dr-henry-jones-jr.html /members/dr.-henry-jones,-jr.html
http://forum.dvdtalk.com/members/dr....jones,-jr.html

Yeah, just delete the middle initial entirely. Without the period, the "S" would just look silly and I only even started using it as part of my name in the first place because some guy with the same first and last name had already claimed it on Gmail and Twitter. If that solves the issue then I'm cool with it.

Thanks for looking into this y'all. It's not a big deal to me, please re-add the trailing period to my name. Thanks again!
