Malware in Movie Forum thread?

I got a flagged warning screen for potential malware when I clicked on the "Robocop getting remade?" thread in Movie Talk. It pointed to an external site called LOLpresidents. Anyone else?

Just clicking on the thread in general.

Here's a screen grab of the warning.

Strange, I don't get that at all. Are you sure that you have adblock plus and noscript installed?

Re: Malware in Movie Forum thread?

I was on the dvdtalk forums a few days ago and Avast said it blocked a malware attack. I wrote the name of the site it said it came from but I don't know where I put it now. I just remember that "mugshot" was in the address. Not too helpful, I know.

Anways, I was just curious, is there any preventive measures to secure yourself against malware attacks? I have avast and malwarebytes but every so often something like this happens, and sometimes the anti-viruses don't pick up on some of these viruses. The only way you know is when the computer starts acting funny.

Is most malware transmitted through the ads on websites? Is disabling Java on the webrowser a good step, and if so, what does it do?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Mods removed it.

What browser do you use? Do you use Firefox? If so you need to get no-script and ad block plus if you want more browsing protection.

Disabling Javascript on your browser is not good because then you can't view or log into certain sites.

However removing/disabling JAVA if you don't use it will give you more security when viewing sites that runs JAVA applications which sometimes maliciously can throw out a virus or two.

No matter how tight you make your PC and browser to be...there is always the possibility of infection. That is why the user must always take precaution and be aware what they are viewing or visiting.

It's like the streets...anything can happen...you can get hit by a car out of the blues...or you could get shit on your head by a flying pigeon...anything is possible...but always be aware of your surroundings. You can't walk into any neighborhood you want without taking precaution...the internet is exactly the same way.

Re: Malware in Movie Forum thread?

Chrome is giving me a malware warning when I try and open the Second and Only gif thread in Otter.

*edit - also coming up on the How I Met Your Mother thread in TVtalk. It's citing "tvovermind" as a known malware distributer.

Re: Malware in Movie Forum thread?

Can you give a post range for those warnings in each thread?

Re: Malware in Movie Forum thread?

Is anyone still seeing those alerts?

If so, have you run local scans on your computer?

What browser & version are you running?
