Director Poll's in Movie Talk

Can we get rid of all these? A few were fine, but now the front page is flooded with them. Awfully annoying.

And even worse that a moderator is contributing to them.

Not saying it's a good or bad thing but it's leaking into Otter now.

I say just change the site name to ORtalk :)

Really ridiculous how things are going in Movie Talk. Plenty of movie threads bumped into the second page for the most ridiculous, childish polls.

Re: Director Poll's in Movie Talk

Sorry all. I guess I started it with my Fincher/Nolan poll a week or two back... I then did three more and they were weaved throughout the first page, nothing really out of line. I head over to movie talk today and all hell is breaking loose.

I wish people could come up with a original idea for a thread instead of aping my directors/poll threads.
They're giving my original polls a bad name. -ohbfrank- :)

Re: Director Poll's in Movie Talk

Seriously? After all that shit with the stupid ass character polls now there is this?

Re: Director Poll's in Movie Talk

Yeah! Not only are these annoying, what's up with the unnecessary use of apostrophes in thread titles?!

I kid, I kid. But seriously, the fun has been sucked out of Movie Talk, just like it was with those unbearable character polls.

It would be fine if it was controlled and there were rounds for the tournament, but what's going on over there now is just chaos.

fumanstan 08-02-10 10:03 PM

Re: Director Poll's in Movie Talk

And a moderator should know better. A couple by JumpCutz weren't a big deal, but everyone flooding it should be suspended. :)

Geez, god forbid people discuss directors in the movie forum.

Re: Director Poll's in Movie Talk

I am outraged, sir. OUTRAGED!

But seriously, there are way too many of them. These sorts of "contests" should be infrequent and limited to 4 or 5* concurrent threads.

These complaints are ridiculous. The debates in those threads are more interesting than most of the stuff bumped to the somehow awful second page.

If they don't interest you, ignore them. If the other threads are interesting enough, they'll bounce back up.

Yeah, everyone here wants to discuss Uwe Boll.

Ruggero Deodato or Umberto Lenzi?

Yeah totally fair to make eveyone search for threads that are updated with new news about movies. I mean these director threads are providing such valuable information! Please. The only thing more ridiculous than the threads are people like you who defend this crap.

it's gone from interesting to beat that dead horse right into the ground, make it a zombie horse and then kill it again. Enough already. Thoughtful threads on the topic get lost in the joke threads.

I like how it's not just 1 person creating all these threads, but a whole team of DVD Talk renegades who are contributing. Very creative approach...it can't be said that one person is dominating the forum I suppose.

That's nice. ;)

Like 99% of the threads aren't drivel anyway?

God forbid you have to make one extra click to go to the next page. Or one extra click and hit the new posts button. Or make the minor effort to just subscribe to these apparently great threads that you care so much about.

fumanstan 08-02-10 11:34 PM

Re: Director Poll's in Movie Talk

How are 99% of the threads drivel? I don't see how anyone can't see a difference between the forum flooded with polls and discussions about actual movies.

Regardless, looks like they've been deleted

Haven't seen that many threads disappear at once since the infamous forum "upgrade" around the first of the year.

Time now to hear from the other side in 3...2...1...

Re: Director Poll's in Movie Talk

I just know that I was enjoying the conversations about Eyes Wide Shut in the Kubrick thread, and Knocked Up in the Apatow one. I get why forum members became aggravated over the cluttering of the all-important page 1, but there was some actual conversation going on, you know. About movies. In the movie sub-forum.

God forbid you actually read any of the threads you want removed, or care that people are enjoying themselves having these conversations. But, hey, at least now I don't have to click "page 2" to find my way back to the riveting thread about Twin Sitters. You know, "the best movie EVER MADE."

Re: Director Poll's in Movie Talk

You guys should blame the folks that decided to piggy back on the first couple polls and spam the whole forum.

Given the fact that we JUST WENT THROUGH THIS a couple months ago with the movie tourney and threads were locked, people should know better.

The threads I mentioned were "spam" because...what? They weren't the first such threads created?

Re: Director Poll's in Movie Talk

The hell?

Sure, the polls were overkill, but - with a couple of lame exceptions - they were good matchups. There was some good discussion. I mean, lock 'em if you want, but I don't understand deleting them.

I guess I should count my blessings. The Expendables thread is now back to the first page. So I can read a thousand posts of grown men creaming themselves over the thought of Sly Stallone and Dolph Lundgren reuniting onscreen.

In order to resolve this issue completely, I suggest we create a poll.
