When was adding this ever discussed, or was it? Can we throw it into another forum or something? as if the main page wasn't cluttered enough already.

I imagine it generates some revenue that helps the site remain free to members with minimal ad intrusion.

Complaining about a simple ad that doesn't take up any extra room on a page might be considered, oh what's the right word, lame as well.

I'm pretty sure he was referring to the actual forum, which the addition of was pretty useless, which does take up extra room on the page, should be considered (I'll spare you the theatrics) lame.

For the record, yes, the forum addition is lame. It's also lame that we now have this outsized ad for a site no one here cares about taking up room on the forum front page.

The forum addition allows more directed content and advertising to anime fans and is thus a revenue generator that helps defray costs for non-paying members. If you don't like the forum don't enter it.

I think it's too early to say that no one cares about it. I think it could be mildly successful.

Ah, so now non-paying members are a problem. Okay.

Simply put, if you want to continue a non-paying site you're going to have to allow revenue generation from ads. Some of it may not be to your total liking. This one is pretty unobtrusive.

Can we get it added to the Forum Jump drop-down on the top-left?

I asked IB-Dick to do that so it should be there soon.

I'm not really sure as to the root cause as to the bitching and moaning here.... but this thread isn't going anywhere positive.
