Don't let The Bus lie to you (he does that you know). The DVD production companies are looking for new things to put on their boxes. The winners will all have box quotes reflecting the fact that they have won our support.

I will say in regards to the tournaments, that I've been encouraged to check out a few movies that I wasn't familiar with based on their popularity in those polls.

I won the only sheep thread I participated in. 
I don't think they're getting out of hand. They are popular right now. Like any fad, they will slow down with time.
