General 2009 DVDTALK appreciation thread/post

Been here for a few years now - on the trade forum, general dvd talk forum, and bargains forum mostly. Both the general site (great reviews) and forum (great discussions) have really made it worth being a dvd collector and overall film nerd. So I guess here's to you, DVDTALK.com!

Taught me that it's possible to watch movies on little discs.

What I really love about it are all the different forum/areas focusing on different topics, beyond just DVDs, that let you really put the right discussion in the right area

I used to lurk between here and HTF. I joined HTF in 2000 but really never posted much. I spent more and more time here and finally just joined. The operator headspace is much broader here.

Stating the obvious is brown nosing, and brown nosing who? Anything remotely like the other forum here would cause the HTF to shove its own head up its ass until it disappeared or became the worm ouroboros.

Re: General 2009 DVDTALK appreciation thread/post

I gotta say, actually, that I have been recently reminded how much friendlier and constructive the DVD Talk community is than most online forums. My inner geek was roused to explore some other forums by Star Trek last month, and...wow! Talk about some petty, hostile, immature sniping! I've personally been in at least two thoughtful debates over recent movies on this thread (Star Trek and Up) and never ran into any of the kinds of things here that are par for the course elsewhere.

I still think that some of the moderating is overkill (and at least in one instance, a case of seemingly little more than pettiness), but I have come to feel better about all the collective moderating that goes on here.
