Re: Unwritten Rules: Posting Ettiquette
Couple of questions here:
Are there any posting rules in the forum? Were the unwritten rules or posting etiquette ever established? My questions are due to this post, where the OP is being hostile towards me because I politely asked him to use a question mark the next time he started a thread that had a question instead of actual info. http://forum.dvdtalk.com/dvd-talk/54...e-release.html There was also the musick Best Buy thread last week in the bargain forum that was a joke and incredible amount of duplicate threads that have been created lately. If an older member says something, then the OP starts flaming the member saying that he is not a mod and blah blah blah. To prevent these type of discussions and to help mods who aren't present all the time in the forums, there should be some written rules we can point out to another member that gets out of line. |

We need mini-mod status!

Re: Unwritten Rules: Posting Ettiquette
What the...?!? Is this for real, dx, or are you fucking around?
If it's real, three questions: 1 - Are you also serious about your last post??? 2 - Why in the hell did you dig up a 6 year old thread to talk about this? 3 - Why do you think he should use a question mark when there actually IS a release? It's a friggin' STATEMENT. English proficiency. Mmm. Get some! |

It's a friggin' STATEMENT. English proficiency. Mmm. Get some! 2- Contrary to some people in the forum, I use the search engine. Since there is already an existing post of the same topic I want to talk, I decided to bump that thread instead of creating a new one. 3- There is no actual DVD re-release, which is what the OP was asking about. There is an Blu-ray re-release, which was already covered here on the proper forum, the HD one: http://forum.dvdtalk.com/hd-talk/549...st-2009-a.html By the way, this is the first post of the thread:

Anyone know if the films are getting re-released on standard DVD as well? I only care about part 3 now since the previous release was just a single disc. |

Can't we all just get along [without written rules]?

Re: Unwritten Rules: Posting Ettiquette
I understand dx23's complaint. Although I think the "use the search!" thing goes out the window when we're talking about bumping threads that are years old.

Re: Posting Etiquette (2009)
If there is a problem with a particular post, using the RTPTAM is a good first bet. In the circumstances described, I'd suggest using RTPTAM and asking a mod to add the necessary interrogative so as to avoid others being dragged into a thread under false pretences.
Incidentally, there's no problem with raising such a query here if it is deemed that further discussion would be useful. AND I'm a big fan for keeping conversations in one place, so have no problem with searching and bumping. BTW, in this case, I've decided to split the thread simply to prevent the main topic being diverted by a tangential discussion regarding such bumps. For the record, I too am irked when what purports to be a statement is posted by way of a subject header when in fact there should be a questionmark. Although this may represent no more than thoughtlessness on the part of the person who starts such offending threads, it might also be viewed along the lines of misrepresentation, hence my advice atop this post. |
Re: Posting Etiquette (2009)
Thanks for the clarification benedict. Still, I believe there should be something where we can point newbies or not so frequent posters to follow. I remember that in December several members got upset with me because I pointed out that there was a previous thread discussing the same topic six months earlier. Here is the thread:
http://forum.dvdtalk.com/dvd-talk/54...n-dvd-oop.html I didn't put a snarky comment, or anything in my post except the link to the previous thread asking the same questions. Suddenly I was attacked by a member for doing that. I defended myself, other members supported me, but then 3 other members attacked me, calling me wannabe mod, etc. The moderator only stepped in to stop the discussion, but both threads are still open and to me it leads to the same members that blasted me, plus all the newbies that come in to continue and post without searching, cluttering the forum with the same topics over and over and doing whatever the hell they feel like it. To me it disrupts the flow of the forum, plus it pisses the older members. Lately, it's been like that, and I know of several good members of the forum that have stop posting or participating in DVDTalk. I don't think the purpose of the forum is to turn veteran members away. |
Re: Posting Etiquette (2009)
This is an example of a new member that needs to know the rules before they start shooting around:
http://forum.dvdtalk.com/members/primeraprinting.html He goes threadcraps, derails and pads his posts for no apparent reason except piss off people. Edit: Even though he hasn't posted anything related, his username is kind of shilling the business of that DVD printing company. |

You can't post a url until you have a certain number of posts, so a lot of times you'll see new members making a lot of random, nonsensical replies in order to reach that threshold.

I know there are more important things in life, but still I enjoy (although recently a little less) DVDTalk. I like the community aspect and the fact that I get to discuss topics of my interest with other members. But lately, I'm been feeling that some new members and others not so new have began making this place a little less friendly. They come here and don't follow any rules and are just being general assholes. Before, it was once in a while that a troll came in a started stirring things up, but that person was quickly shut down by the mods. Like I said, I'm not the only one here who feels this way and I know for a fact that several good longstanding members have left the forum because they couldn't take it anymore with the rude new members and the trolls that posted on and on. I don't think the purpose of the forum is to drive people away. There was always certain level of respect around and now is being diminished by these idiots. Just look at Mr. Music here, who is posting me to leave the forum just because I expressed my opinion. |

Just look at Mr. Music here, who is posting me to leave the forum just because I expressed my opinion. Ok I understand. So here are your choices.... 1. Learn to live with it. 2. Leave If you should have any problems with particular members send a PM or email to the Admins or Mods. Why do you feel the need to discuss it in open forums and try to get everyone against him? Who cares what his handle is. |
