I still find them annoying, especially because of that horizontal line.

How about using the CSS visibility property to hide titles that are the same as the thread title?

Google doesn't like it when you do that.

IB-Dick, I'm not entirely sure three titles are necessary.

I'm on it.....

Aligned ritght ismy preference. That goes for the titles as well.

Much more productive.

Not necessarily, but potentially-- depending on the use.

In the advanced reply mode, the titles are still showing up bold and left-aligned.

If you must list a title with every post, how about putting it in the table row to the left of the post number? That kludge, however, doesn't alter the fact that listing the same titles over and over constitutes spam. Surely, a competent PHP programmer could use a thread's posts to manipulate AdSense without changing the content users actually read.

This has absolutely nothing to do with Adsense.

So, are they showing up when NOT hovering over them? (Like The Bus, I'm assuming you're talking about the link title tags on the showforum page)

Looking at the source, the text is associated with the table entries and not the links...

I still would like to see a version with blinking titles or random bolded colors each time. It would increase participation in this thread, and I don't see how that could be a bad thing.

PS I appreciate the changes so far, IB-Dick.

can we put HTML or the BB code in the titles? This is a test...

EDIT - I guess not. :(

Ouch. I think internet sighs are harder to take than normal sighs. Far from a momentary collapse of breath, there it is for everyone to read. Permanently etched in a web log somewhere. Really hurts.

Google won't know a thing if you use javascript to set the CSS visibility.

Change is okay if it serves a purpose and doesn't clutter things up. ;)

I'll continue to make lemonade out of these lemons by constantly bastardizing my post titles. There's at least some entertainment value there.

I don't think you give Google enough credit. With as many AJAX enabled sites that are out there, Google does a pretty darn good job of reading js now.

We've got one site that was sandboxed because the majority of the site was hidden by default. It was a great user experience; if you want more information, you click and it's there. Google thought we were using hidden text to game it. We killed the feature and got released from penalty. Based on that experience, we removed similar features from other sites and saw much better placement in the SERPS.

It never bothered me at all, but I'll admit it... I am having fun with it too.

Now that we've had the greatest post of all time, can we keep to the subject of the thread?

Bronkster 01-07-09 06:39 PM

Just because I don't like it doesn't mean I can't have fun with it.

That's a good idea. Now, if only there were some way - seven pages later - for me to remember what the subject of the thread was.
