I don't like that rule.

Can I create a poll to see whether or not the majority of members like this rule, or do the powers that be not care what the members think?

A number of people have expressed their feelings about one rule or another, especially lately. I'd be curious to see a massive turnout in any poll though; even the most attended ones of late amount to a hill of beans in terms of how few members actually vote in them (and DVD Talk is not a democracy or democratic republic). I also think that "the powers that be" care what people think but unless you're backed up by huge numbers, they aren't likely to change a fundamental tenant of the rules (or interpretation of them).

Otherwise, perhaps if you asked one of the Administrators or Moderators, they'd clarify the rules about posting polls. I just don't think it would make a huge difference in changing policy no matter the outcome.

As has been said many times before, the forum is privately owned and is not a democracy. The rules that have recently been posted in Other were derived over a period of many years and refined after much discussion with the new owners of the site.

There has been substantial comment from people about the stated rules and the thread in Other is the appropriate place to discuss them. But they're not going to change in the near future.

I do remember the huge outcry over the ads inside the first post for each thread made Geoff get rid of them pretty quickly - but that was Goeff, and not "faceless corporation". I bet if they implemented ads like that, they wouldn't give a toss what we thought, that is, until they saw the inevitable dwindling of threads and posts - which will likely happen with these inane rules too, just not as quickly.

The rule you don't like is absolutely no different than it was before. Those types of threads were not allowed in Other, they went in the Adult Forum and we don't have that forum anymore.

Really? Even if the pictures had no nudity? Then that was a lame rule to begin with, and I think most would agree.

No, the thread they're talking about was just a pic of a mannish looking chick -- fully clothed (well, she's extremely big and the clothes are small and tight, but it's not adult.). Well, it was nasty, but you know what I mean. This would never have gone in the adult forum before.

X... i think they were right... that would have never gone in the adult forum before but i can i see both sides on this...

But i ask is, if talking about how good looking a girl looks, does that mean it will be moved to the adult forum...

As I mentioned in my closing comments, there were other considerations that went into the closing of that thread that had more to do with a member's behavior than the thread itself.

slop101 05-23-08 01:20 PM

I didn't mean that thread specifically, just the fact that having harmless pictures of people in a thread is somehow against the rules seems more than a little ridiculous to me.

X 05-23-08 01:30 PM

What "harmless pictures of people" are not allowed in threads?

MartinBlank 05-23-08 01:36 PM

The pics were removed from this thread

Okay, so you locked the thread. But did you really have to suspend him as well?

Just asking...
