Wow, thanks for this thread. I scanned my system 4 times yesterday trying to find the spyware. I've been getting it random times the past 2 days.

I've been redirected twice in the last two days to this site-

http://blessedads.com/?cmpid=laughfur

Fortunately, I have been able to close the page before it fully loads.

Got redirected 2x by trying to go the Other Talk subforum.

Edit: Wow, just tried editing my post and got redirected again. I'm running Firefox as well.

I haven't had this problem, maybe because I block ActiveX from running. But I've never seen so many pages here come up with an ActiveX warning at the top of my browser as I have lately.

i got the same redirect - funny thing is, when you go to the website it pretends to be scanning through your computer (various dll's and such). however, both machines (on which i use FF) were macs.

Just got hit with this as soon as I browsed to the site on my laptop w/ Firefox. Infuriating to say the least.

Time to install NoScript...

I haven't been here for days but I just got it when I went to the index page. I'm running Camino on OS X. It also attempts to set two or three cookies. I did not notice what the ad banner was, but 30 Days of Night was the review.

I got that one yesterday. I thought maybe I just wasn't paying attention and clicked something by accident; I think it may have happened earlier in the week as well.

Using Safari on Mac BTW.

While reading the "Next Great American Band" thread in the TV section, my browser suddenly was automatically re-directed to http://blessedads.com/?cmpid=laughfur at 4:50pm Eastern on 10/20/07. I use an older version Internet Explorer(version 6.0) on a Windows 98 operating system(just Win98, not even the second edition Win98).

That shouldn't affect Firefox though, right? Seems like it's happening on all browsers.

Happened twice today. Once on a PC running Firefox and once on a Mac running Safari. Just happened actually which is why I came here to see what's up.

If I see it again I'll take a screengrab.

This looks like one of those scumware things where it will autoinstall on your computer.

It resizes your browser and then spits up a dialouge box that asks if you want to install their program on your computer with "OK" and "CANCEL" buttons.

Do not click either button, and do not try to shut off the dialogue box using the "X" button. No matter what you do it will redirect you to their installation site. Get offline so you can't go the site, or use ALT+F4 to close the box. (I'd recommend just getting offline, though instead of changing ALT+F4).

I don't know where these things are coming from, but I also this happen while I was on MySpace a week or two ago, so if you know what ad server they have in common with DVDTalk, that might be a clue.

[BTW, I'm also using Firefox.]

Ditto for me. It was when I brought up the front page of the forum.

Same event here within the last 15 minutes and a couple days ago. I will do a screen capture of the page as soon as it randomly chooses my browsers (IE7 & Firefox 2.XX).

also just got this hijack/redirect ad...

http://www.createspace.com/?ref=2324...FQsNewodAXoGfA

'create space'...

this stuff has proven to be detrimental to visits and traffic as people get hit, get sick of it, or spend money on scumware and have spyware and etc...
CreateSpace DVD on Demand
Free Title Setup - Find the Better Way to Distribute Film - On Demand! www.CreateSpace.com Ads by Google - Advertise on this site
notice this is also a toolbar or adbar ad that runs... from google ads... it's not a coincidence... and then other ads happen on the hijack that weren't on the adbar rotation... it's the same thing i've seen before...

again...

it's almost a sure thing this is coming from your ad rotation feed unfortunately...

there is nothing to track down as such...

i think a paradigm shift in the industry has happened where adbars are no longer 'enough'... Example Link... i suppose it is possible, but i don't believe it, that the ad companies are completely owned by hackers and have no control over the feed... i wonder which of those two is actually preferable?... there have been reports of various problems with google ads...

i've been through this on 2 other forums now...

and your ad company may deny everything... at least they have on the others... even claimed they were 'hacked'... anything to avoid you canceling service... and keep letting this crap have a negative affect on your forum... which it did in the cases i mention... adbrite sure as HELL did...

the irritation and outright malware/spyware infections dropped a forum from 91,000 in traffic rating (on Alexa site info) to 145,000 in only a few weeks... the membership did not recover after the ads were stopped... people will simply not tolerate this stuff for long...

it really sucks... the only the way the stuff was stopped on another large forum was to stop the ad rotation completely... which really sucked hard for obvious reasons...

miracle!!! all hijacks were gone though... all of them...

ad company claimed 'it will never happen again it's against our policy'... 'we've fixed the problem'...

ad rotation returned... so did hijacks...

i'm new here... so i guess i can understand what i say will be taken with a grain of salt...

but i like it here... and i do want to tell you what i know because i've been through this whole thing twice now... well i guess this makes three...

and it pretty much sucks all the way around... as these things are used to generate revenue to pay for the forums...

i got hit with another one, not mentioned in this thread, a moment ago, i wish i had written down the name... it was trying to install something, via my firefox, so i had to crash it quick and couldn't document the exact ad name or etc...

i feel sure those running IE will have some malware things activeX-ing their way onto their systems... may already have...

except X of course... who watches the 'block' notices go by... and each one of those would have nailed many users...

I got it when I clicked into the main forum a couple of minutes ago. Good luck knocking this one out of rotation

It happened to me once yesterday and once today. I'm using IE.

Just to check, can we review the ActiveX controls under the Security tab in IE?

For the 10 items under ActiveX, I've got everything checked 'Disable', except -

"Binary and script behaviours" - 'Enable'.
"Download signed ActiveX controls" - 'Prompt'.
"Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins" - 'Enable'.
"Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting" - 'Enable'.

I know that it can effect how pages load and function, but is it better to just have everything disabled?
