Changing board name

Who should I talk to in order to instate a forum name change? I know I'd have to keep a "formerly known as" in my profile for awhile, which is fine...I'd just like to change it to chibul for consistency purposes (matches my XBL gamertag and every other forum I'm on), to make it easier to keep track of.

Here's the process:

1. You post your request here (already you're ahead of the game)
2. Everybody makes fun of you for a few weeks
3. Eventually the name change goes through

I think you have to fill out form 133-77C but don't sign until the witnesseth date is the same.

According to the FAQ post stuck at the top of this forum since 2002, one usually ceases to be eligible for a name change after exceeding 1000 posts.

You joined in 2005 and have over 2K posts so it really is in the hands of the admins as to whether you qualify for any kind of dispensation.

Tell the admins you just got married, and you significant other wouldn't take your last name of 'abrg923', so you changed to hers, 'chibul'.

Probably need to provide a marriage certificate or something.

True...but I have seen it done before (I believe it was Josh H.). Hopefully they're cool with the change...not looking to "trick" people, or anything like that.

This is not always a smooth process. I asked for a name change long ago and ended up with this one.

I think we should be a bit more lenient with name changes (within reason, more than one change per lifetime shouldn't be necessary), but perhaps keep the "formerly known as" much longer, or even forever.

The difference was that Josh had his full last name. There was a privacy issue (google cache aside). Unless your name is A. Brg 923, it's not the same scenario.

That's because dvdtalk is all about truth in advertising.

That could be taken as a personal attack. And libel. See you in court, Missy!

And he had that name for how many years? I'd say the damage is done.

Jokes aside, I really don't think it's an unreasonable request.

As the FAQ thread says...any admin.

If you go to the front page of the forum (the one that lists all the forums available) and scroll to the bottom you'll see a link that says something like View Forum Leaders. Click that and scroll down to the Admin section and contact one of them. I don't suggest contacting Geoff or chitowndvd...Geoff's the owner of the site and busy and unless much has changed since I was last involved in all of this, chitown is Geoff's backup when he goes on vacation, so not usually active.

Well, X is probably your best bet. He's the one I went to when I wanted my name changed. (Minor change, capitalizing the first three letters... but he was pretty quick about the whole thing.)

I'm against the change. Why would should they change your name from the easy-to-remember and oh-so-descriptive abrg923 to something completely cryptic like chibul?

You forgot the step between 2 and 3 where a mod makes an amusing or ironic name change for a few days...

Well, if they change his name to Enormous Genitals, I'm gonna go ballistic.
