Notification emails: Sometimes I get them, sometimes I don't.

I've been racking my brain about this. I can subscribe to a thread and sometimes I'll get the notification. It doesn't apply just to this board either. Seems anyone that uses vBulletin I have this issue with.

Is there something that I'm not aware of on this issue.

btw: I'm going to subscribe to this thread. I'll report as to if I actually get a notification.

Some threads I get e-mails for and some I just don't, I don't really worry about as I always go to User CP first to see what's new.

Yep same here, but I also noticed that sometimes when I do come back, threads that I have read and have had no new posts, show up as having new posts like if I had not read them yet.

Guessing it is some kind of cookie issue.... it is very weird though.

I first noticed not receiving all the notices a few months back. I figured it was just the email provider mistakenly blocking some. Guess others had the same thing happen though.

As some have mentioned, your email provider might be marking the messages as spam. I know some of my DVDTalk messages were getting flagged as spam and it took a bit of tweaking before I had all the messages going into my inbox as they should have.

Anyone know if GMail just flags messages as spam or does it also block some entirely?

If it just marks them as spam but still delivers them, atleast in my case, it would appear that there might be another issue as the notifications are either delivered or not, never marked spam.

It's not a spam thing, there are definitely many emails not being sent.

Back in this similar thread last month , Benedict kindly tried to help me figure out just when the emails are sent out.

Sadly, even though I was the OP, and was definitely subscribed to the thread (I checked), I never received an email notification for either of his replies.

But maybe somebody subscribing to this thread can help me? I'll do a couple edits, and if you're willing, just let me know which edit comes thru your email.

First save at 0742.
Quick edit seconds later.
A third save at 0743.
Again at 0745, probably hitting the "edited post" comment barrier.
And one last edit at 0755.

Does this work like it does on other sites? That is you will get one notice but won't get another until you visit the site.

At 9:24 I got the first notification for this thread. Only took 3 days and 10 posts.

I haven't received any email notifications for a couple of months now. I even didn't receive the activation message when I tried changing my email address to get notifications back, which led to my not being able to post for a few weeks. I had to email one of the reviewers at his non-DVD Talk address to ask him to notify a mod to get back on the board. The changed email account has stuck (and I'm obviously afraid to try changing it again), but still no notifications.

It's not a spam thing because I receive and check all messages. Some get marked as "bulk" by Yahoo but I look at them anyway.

I got a reply for this post btw....

But I've started paying more attention to other forums and I've noticed there are several that use vBulletin that I get all email from. A few Canon forums I'm apart of don't have the same issue as DVDTalk does. Sucks too because this is by far my favorite

We're looking at upgrading to the newest version of the forum software in the next few months, hopefully this will address this issue.

Thanks Geoff,

For reference I just looked and one of the others is running version 3.6.5 so that may be the case.

Is this something that can be looked into/addressed with the sale of the site? Wasn't sure if the new servers and any added resources would allow this to be fixed now.

I think it may be a cookie issue, but it could be something else....

I also have a problem where I will be reading a thread (for too long I guess) and the site acts like I left (due to inactivity), so when I click out of the thread/back to the forum section, all the threads that were new, are no longer new and the You last visited has been updated to sometime when I was reading the last thread or was inactive but still on the site.

Anyone else have issues the past few weeks? I have received nary a notification today, and multiple threads that I have subscribed to have had posts.

It seems arbitrary and random on the notifications I have received. I'll check my filters again, but it just seems random. I'll see a thread on the front page that has been updated that I received no notification on, it's frustrating.

In the past few weeks (and definitely after the server change), it seems to have taken a 180 degree turn. Now I get the notifications almost right away, but I get multiple notifications even if I don't visit the forum. It's only supposed to notify you for a certain thread once until you visit the forum again. I'll have to verify, but 90% sure.
