Feature Request: Editing Titles of Threads?

I think this would be a useful feature for the OP of a thread to be able to do - we can currently edit the title, but the title that is displayed remains the same. I've seen other boards of this style that enable this - IMO, it'd be helpful, especially for threads about movies/DVD releases (for release date changes, etc).

If you're lucky, may be the admin will change this thread title to "Editing Titties of Threads"

I sort of agree, but it could be abused. Maybe "lite" changes could be allowed, like adding punctuation (? marks) or changing dates, or adding "dead deal"; but I could see issues of major changes throwing things off. It could be as bad as the constant thread deletion we used to have (thanks again Geoff!).

As long as the mods don't mind the work, maybe it would be best to leave it to them.

I agree. Often times a thread in DVDtalk will be made saying "Blah blah blah: The Movie is being released on February 23rd!!!!" and then a week later, the release date is changed to March 13th, but the thread title can't be changed to reflect that.

Exactly. This is a big beef with me, as sometimes, the forum here is where I get my first information about a release, and I don't read the rest of the thread for fear of spoilers.

I can see the potential for abuse, but in the meantime I'll support this.

If you need a title to be changed you can email a mod and they'll change it. This is a regular thing and no big deal as far as I'm concerned.

I agree, leave the title changing to the mods. Too much potential for "fun" if you let us riff raff change titles.

Although haven't we had trouble with forum emails? Which works better, looking up mod emails thru their profiles or using the report this thread to a mod button?

What could go wrong with letting posters change our own thread titles? Maybe I'm missing something...

Something is off here. Is there some sort of "grace period" when you are actually able to edit thread titles?

Just yesterday I changed the title to this thread that I started. When I posted that thread, I first had the title as "Tammy Faye Bakker, dead at 65" but right after I posted it I noticed that it would be best to have the title as " Tammy Faye Messner (Bakker), dead at 65", so I changed it, and it worked.

How long do you have to actually be able to do that? I just went back to it to test the title change option, it doesn't work now.

I think you can change it within like 5 minutes of creating a thread..

That's good to know. This will allow the quick fixing of typos, adding a ? mark, etc.
