No shit. I've never used the GCO deal and don't plan to, mainly because I'm way too scared to have Google anywhere near my personal information.

There's already sticky threads for other specific, recurring coupons (DVD Planet, DVD Empire, etc.), why not this?

So, am I correct in thinking that the consensus is shaping out to be that it's OK to post an occaisional exceptional GCO deal, but keep it in the GCO thread? I'm fine with that. Since the $10 discount may be winding down (it's set to stop accepting new registrations on the 15th, but a new enrollment period may begin after that), I'm not sure if it's worth making it a sticky.

Agree... unless there is a NEW GCO offer ($20 off of 50), lets stop the madness.

Couldn't agree more with the OP. These GCO deals are getting irritating as all hell. To me, it's not a deal when you have to create multiple accounts with multiple email addresses using multiple credit cards to get in on the "deal." If I can get a discount with my existing gmail account, then that would be a deal.

Thanks OP for starting this thread.

Guys, you may not like it, but some people do. Not everyone can/will be happy. I'm not going to make an effort to close them because I see them, but, use caution. If you're saving $2.44, really it's pointless, but if a store has some sort of sale going on, and you can save $20 bucks from someplace else, I don't see the harm, even if most of you have used and/or abused google checkout.

The only way it's a deal though is by using the GCO code, which is the equivalent to a coupon. It's the same as if when the DDD sale was on, everyone was posting separate threads like "X-Files Seasons sets $16 (after DDD 20% code)" or some such nonsense.

Not trying to argue with you, it just seems most people in here agree there should be one main thread for GCO "deals".

I can understand, but not everybody looks at "one and only" threads, and people appreciate multiple threads pointing out specific "good" deals. Like I said, there's no solution that would make everyone happy, just like in the past where people wanted the "Best price for ???" threads to end. Nobody's gonna be happy either way.

Except with the DD codes you can use them under one account. With these GCO "deals" one would have to create multiple accounts, which to me is not worth it.

Would someone please point out where all of these annoying threads are?

I "scanned" through the latest 100 threads and saw 1. And that 1 is a good deal without GCO.

Not saying I didn't miss any, but I don't see the big problem.

I agree with the OP.

For the sake of arguement. what if I were to start a thread for every DVD deal based no the 10% discount off of HD dvd titles from Amazon.com? Like GCO not everyone can take advantage of the discount so it would be frustrating to see multiple posts for bargains that I could either not take advantage of, have to jump through multiple hoops to get, or just didn't want to give away personal information to Google.

If the Google Checkout deals were consolidated to one thread then members could subscribe to that thread and be notified IF they want to see the GCO batrgains.

There are DDD, Costco, Best Buy, Circuit City, Target, FYE and numerous other stores with single threads. Thanks again Speedy1961! What makes Google any different.

that's the best analogy on this yet i think. i was comparing it to making a thread about getting free shipping at Amazon over $25 purchase but your example makes the point better.

maybe a stickie with a link to https://checkout.google.com/buyer/tour.html

By signing up with multiple emails, you are pretty much scamming the system and opening yourself up to a lot more spam and possible identity theft.
You'd be wrong on both counts. It's a discount for gmail addresses, not home addresses and don't call me a scammer unless you plan to drop by and do it in person. I have and use several gmail addresses for legitimate reasons, and if google checkout allows me to use them, that would be their business, not yours.

If you're that paranoid about identity theft, stay home, never buy online, shred your documents and pay cash for all your purchases.

Here's an idea: If you don't like a thread, don't post in it. If enough people feel like you, it fades away into oblivion. Democracy in action!

Take that as my 2 cents, or my bump of this thread.

Have to agree with the op... all the boards I frequent are congested with these deals, generally for one item on one site

Oh god. DVDTalk is supportive of what it's poster's want, so if enough people dislike certain tendencies they can ask for it to change.

If only a moderator would step in and decide!

Oh wait....

One has....

Can we move on to other things yet?

If you guys want to continue to bitch, instead of just bumping this topic to the top, there's a whole "Feedback" forum in which to do so.

I find it ironic that this topic has become so very much more obtrusive than all of the GCO topics posted in the last two months combined!!

At least all of these complaints are contained in one thread--instead of a new thread for each different complaint
