Yeah uh, thanks for the summary there, but I'm sure I got it all sorted out in post number 16. It seems sarcasm isn't your forte, and consequently this thread is turning into a game of red-light, green-light.

Bottom line: one guy struck a nerve with another guy, and he was called a dipshit. Because of that, we miss out on all sorts of valuable first-hand information from somebody who actually knows what in the fuck they're talking about (something that thread could use more of, mind you). All stemming from the comments of somebody who, well, doesn't know what in the fuck they're talking about.

So, so petty and unnecessary. But whatever.

*Ahem*

ABSOLUTELY NO:
Posting of personal attacks against another member, moderator or administrator in the forum

Consider this a warning before you get reported.

Josh H 04-18-07 05:48 PM

Meh, there's a difference between personal attacks and good natured ribbing/banter and the mods here are pretty damn good at telling the difference.

So report away if you must. :D

That's right. You'd know, since you are an esteemed member of the moderator group here....Oh wait.

Josh H 04-18-07 05:59 PM

Give me a break, you don't have to be a moderator to understand what they allow and disallow.

I've been posting here for nearly 8 years and suspended a handful of times my first few yeras. So I've learned the ins and outs of what is and isn't acceptable pretty damn well.

So knock off the mod shit. Go play on the island or something.

Yes. You don't need to be a mod to know the ins and outs. That's why you seem to have over 640 posts here in the Feedback forum.

Josh H 04-18-07 06:18 PM

Damn, we both have too much time on our hands. You to look that up and me to have posted that much.

But to be fair, the majority of my posting in feedback over the years has been bitching about annoying ad campaigns (see the HD-DVD ad thread), threads discussion changes/additions to the forum (campaigning for Movie talk to be separate from DVD talk, getting a politics forum, debating need for other sub forums etc.) rather than threads like this that are debates over how the rules should be enforced.

Though I still don't get the gripe for the latter. Part of the point of the feedback forum is for members to discuss rules etc. And that's this thread with some members bitching about how the personal attack rules, and me and others explaining why we like how they work and why we feel this decision was within the bounds of the rules.

That's not being a "mini-mod" it's using the feedback forum for what it's here for. Expressing my concerns on topics in effort to help influence the forums development in the ways I and others posting here hope it develops.

I like that the rules are strict on blatant personal attacks yet still allow for some playful banter like my joking comment to Scorcho, and will always post that I like it that way in these types of threads as I want it to stay that way. I spend way to much time here (26,000 posts and counting) so I do what I can to give input and keep the forum environment as much to my liking as possible.

In a related note, I've seen people on different forums wondering when someone would register with the user name "Richard McBeef". I would imagine disabling that name along with Mr. Brownstone (although it is a Guns and Roses song too) might be a good idea.

We're "bitching" and you're "explaining." I see. Well fuck me running, I guess I owe you some thanks for all of your, erm, help.

Well said.

I honestly always thought you were a mod given your constant posts enforcing the DVD Talk rules in every relevant thread. Now I see that you're not. I feel dumb.

Josh H 04-18-07 10:08 PM

I said explaining why we like the rules the way the are, not explain the rules. A mod already did that above.

You guys need to lay the fuck off.

And the other guy got nothing. Completely and totally not fair. We need equal punishment for breaking the rules.

Now that is a great point.

I saw a thread here a while back that had certain members riding on their high horses and insinuating that a particular member was somehow a pedo and "needed help" because of some comments he made about the age of consent like it being unfair in some cases.

I thought that these members were totally out of line because his comments did not warrant the response it got from these members.

If members really think that there is a serious problem with someone's posts, they need only to report it to a mod and leave it at that and not take it upon themselves to play forum cop and gang up on a member.

Josh H 04-18-07 11:20 PM

I agree with both those posts. Sometimes stuff goes unpunished. nodeerforamonth should have reported the post rather than calling the member a dickhead, but even with that said the other member should have got a vacation as well for instigating the fight in the first place (assuming he directly called no deer a racist as described).

If there is a flaw with the modding on personal attacks, its that sometimes the instigator goes unpunished when they shouldn't. That's one thing that has always bothered me with the enforcement of that rule--it was particularly common in teh videogame forum a couple years back when it was more heated than it currently is.

Something like the issue that started this thread is fine, as that comment was just aimed at a general group and spoon way overreacted and took it personally.

But if someone posts something what nodeerforamonth says to have posted, then being called a racist is crossing the line and should warrant a punishment regardless of what nodeer's reaction was.

So I think this is definitely an area the mods could work on--being sure to dish out some suspension to people who cross lines in stirring shit up and eliciting personal attacks. Basically be sure to punish both the flame baiters as well as the ones who take the bait and respond with personal attacks.

I don't feel like laying fuckoff.
I don't like fuckoff.
fuckoff makes me feel like someone broke me inside.
fuckoff is a fucktard. Wired wrong and lapdog stupid. Disrespected by all the other dogs, he simply humps whatever will let him hump them.

A fuckoff built to live in others asses. Sniffing whatever comes along.

We need to lay off, eh? Listen, guy, nobody asked you to go all chatty kathy in this thread. That was your decision. Now you're just going to have to act like a big boy when people respond to your repeated, entirely unsolicited interpretations of the forum rules.

I'll never understand why people feel they can constantly recite their opinions and viewpoints to people, but when they're met with resistance and conflicting viewpoints, they pull a Hinkle.

Draven 04-19-07 09:56 AM

 Good lord, all of you.

Don't call fellow members names and you won't be suspended. If someone calls you a name, report it. Don't respond, don't retaliate, and don't get sucked into a pissing match.

This is grade-school-level stuff here, folks.

X 04-19-07 10:06 AM

Thank you for the couple of constructive comments. However this thread has certainly outlived its usefulness.
