This is absolutely ridiculous. You mean I'm the only one that was actually charged the $30 fee?

Bacon 03-10-07 10:05 AM

geez some people -ohbfrank-

Perhaps the mods can ban you from all forums except book talk?

I'm honestly surprised by the mod reaction. I was not trying to be cute. I'm standing up for the forum and its members from this ridiculous global attack by the OP.

I deleted the message out of respect for the forum. I apologize and will not make any more directed comments of that nature to the OP.

Plus, I always think it's funny when forum users get full of themselves like this is the Senate or something. We talk about DVDs. Get over it.

But DVDs are serious damn it!!! :hairpull:

They will waive the fee for services rendered.-other- Or so I've been told.

Wow this thread started out like DVD Talk - The E! True Hollywood Story. Don't know why the OP wanted to take a big ass dump on this place. The funny thing he did it JUST after I paid to add another server to the mix.

I don't think I need to explain myself when it comes to DVD Talk's rules, but I did think that many of you would be interested in hearing that it does cost even more than the OP speculated to run this site every year. We have 5 servers and consume a fuckload of bandwidth. But if money were the key then making the long overdue 'paid membership option' a reality would have happened YEARS ago. Also after slaving away for more than 8 years, if money were the goal we would have done what almost every other major DVD site has done (sold themselves to the highest bidder). Since we launched we've seen.

DVD File get sold twice (they are now owned by Gorilla Nation)
Rotten Tomatoes get sold to IGN
TVshowsonDVD get sold to TV Guide
Television without Pity sold to Yahoo

But that's not the path we've gone down. This site wasn't created for some sort of eventual pay day.

Also most other entertainment sites run full page interstitals, skin their site to promote movies and have advertising which regularly interrupts the reader's experience. We've often passed up lucrative ads because we knew that it would piss off our free readers.

Ultimately I think we've proven as a site that our focus is to be of value and service to our readers. To have a site full of useful and relevant information and have a forum where people can come to have a reasonable and 'safe' space to discuss things with out being assaulted by rude members or over active moderation. It's all a real balance and we do the best job we can.

But most of you know that... because you've been here, you've seen how we deal with things and how we run this site.

We know it .... and let me take this opportunity to say how much we appreciate it!

Th0r S1mpson 03-10-07 11:36 AM

Wait- THAT's the point of this site?

You mean we're not earning points for each post that can eventually be redeemed for a free iPod?

No problem. It's one of those things that even w/ the sentiment that was meant behind it if we start to let it go on some things it's harder to enforce on others/later.

I am confused...Mike left because he thought Geoff wasn't getting enough money from ad revenue to pay for his membership fees and wanted to become a stripper?

Well, if that's what he wants...

tommyp007 03-10-07 02:22 PM

Personally, this site gives me so much information and entertainment, a $30 a year membership fee would be a bargain.

das Monkey 03-10-07 02:58 PM

Mike Adams

Think real hard before you decide it's worth staying.

I've given it some real serious thought, and I can no longer deny this compelling argument. I hope the Internet doesn't break due to the mass exodus of forum members leaving over ... over ... crap, what was the reason again?

I'm loving Mike's new title on his way out.

I would hope it's a lot more than that. I'm not sure why it's any of your business though...

Kittydreamer 03-10-07 07:30 PM

I'd gladly pay $30 a year for this place. It's an amazing place with a plethera of interesting people.

I think it had something to do with Geoff being a stripper for $30, or something like that.

It's because we're supposed to have completely nude strippers here, and Geoff's holding out on us. WTF Geoff? -ohbfrank-

The next time you have a question like this, especially in the middle of the night you ought to just give Geoff a ring to sort it out, worked for Kenwood. ;)
