What's the consensus of the Horror subforum?
Now that's it's been a while, what's the consensus on the Horror subforum?
It never made sense to me as to why this genre (out of any) would need to be put into its separate subforum. Horror films do not deserve to be singled out and thrown into a place where they suddenly don't get discussed.
The subforum has a total of six or seven threads that have been active in the last week. Comic Book Talk, which is a subforum of the most desolate forum there is, actually has twice as many recent discussions. It's obviously a small, healthy subcommunity. After all, comic book readers and "literate" readers don't often intersect in discussion.
But why, horror? I assume it's some sort of internal political thing where a column writer(s) wanted their own section but I don't see the point of it. If any "movie" genre needs its own subforum, its anime. But horror is part of the heterogenous mix of movie genres that all people, at one point or another, enjoy.
I like to discuss horror movies but when the threads get put into an area where no one visits them, what's the point of contributing to the discussion? There is no discussion.
If splitting everything into subgenres is what makes most sense, let's do it. Let's have fourteen subforums: action, adventure, comedy, war, romance, drama, thriller, animated. Doesn't make sense, does it?
So... admins: why horror?
And others: what do you think?

I think the Horror Sub forum should be deleted. I absolutely LOVE horror movies, but I specifically don't post topics in the horror forum because I know that if I want to get a few responses to it, it'll take a couple of weeks. Nobody goes in there. Just out of curiousity, whose idea was it? Were people actually requesting a seperate forum for horror?

I don't like it. I'm not really a horror fan, but I would occasionally read an interesting looking horror thread when I saw one in the main forum. I don't like the idea of splitting things up by genre. I just want to be a movie fan. I think I've gone into the subforum maybe twice.

Useless.
Genre doesn't need its own forum, and it gets about as much activity as book talk, maybe even less. One time I clicked on it and only the first 3 threads had any posts in the past week.

Another HUGE horror fan here that does not like the idea of having a separate horror sub-forum. Call me old-fashioned, but I like having all my genres lumped comfortably together in one forum without having to venture elsewhere to discuss any particular one. Besides, there are a plethora of other sites dedicated specifically to the horror genre that you can already do just that.
And I'm in no way knocking the DVD Stalk column because I immensely enjoy reading it just as I did CineShlock-O-Rama, but singling out any genre is a bad idea, IMHO.

That would be cool.

Any way, I think one of the problems with the forum was it's name. DVD Stalk? For a couple months I never visited because I assumed it was about celery.

Seriously though, the problem is just that genre specific forms won't succeed. The Movie talk forum is mostly threads about new theatrical releases with a handful of threads about old movies from multiple genres at any give time.
You split out a genre like horror, and you don't get much discussion as you just get threads when a new horror movie worth discussing is released and a few threads on older movies. As such, the activity is limited and people don't check the forum very often as they get tired of checking and seeing nothing hew which further stagnates activity. I think the same would be true for any genre.
There's only decent activity if all genres are in one forum where there are enough topics to keep things active and people check in often to see whats new.

I think a lot of people are not taking advantage of the "subscribe to forum" option.
When I discovered that it changed my life. Now I spend much more time here.
I never miss a new thread, at least see the titles of the ones that are deleted, and I see a quick look at every thread that was updated (in the forums I follow).
