Workaround?

Every post has a number.

If you copy the number of a post that you wish to follow up on to the end of the following URL....

http://forum.dvdtalk.com/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=

.... and if you didn't actually want to quote you can, of course, delete that part once you have the reply window open.

I was able to edit the One & Only Doctor Who Thread with no problem but had issues trying to update the Slipcase Thread.

I've been having problems with editing my Film List as well.

<font color=blue><i>This isn't an "official" response in that I have no inside knowledge of the board software. It is intended to be no more than a suggested workaround.</i></font>

Every post has a number.

If you copy the number of a post that you wish to follow up on to the end of the following URL....

http://forum.dvdtalk.com/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=

.... and if you didn't actually want to quote you can, of course, delete that part once you have the reply window open.
Likewise, for anyone where the problem is getting into a post they want to edit, you copy the number of your post that you wish to edit to the end of the following URL....

http://forum.dvdtalk.com/editpost.php?do=editpost&p=

.... but this is probably of little/no use if the problem is - as some have reported - that you are unable to save an edit.

In that scenario, the only possible solution I can suggest is to:

a) grab the code from the original post
b) edit in Word/Notepad or whatever as others have suggested
c) then use what you have created as the first post in a new thread.

After this you can ask a mod to lock the old thread and (un)sticky as necessary.

Wouldn't that generate a mass amount of unused Threads if it's something that's updated once a week (like the Slipcase Thread or the Exclusive Bonus Disc Thread)?

In that case maybe such threads could be deleted.

However, maybe the mods involved won't thank me for potentially increasing their workloads!

[I'm not yet sure whether it has been established if there are any common factors &/or if it is the board software or the particular software configuration of members that is creating this ongoing problem].

I am surprised to find that others are still having problems placing or editing their long posts. Since May 21st I haven't had any problems with editing my long post. For me the long post problem appears fixed.

It's still an ongoing problem for me. I edit my long posts with the DVDTalk Editor and Notepad. And then I just copy and paste on the post when editing is allowed.

I think this is going to have to be solved by a whole upgrade of the forum. I'm starting to spec that out now.

The Valeyard 07-22-07 03:05 PM

Just tried to update the Slipcover Thread and was unable to. My last update was in June but since then, I've been unable to.

When's that upgrade coming?
