Is there a way to personally block some posters?

Can I take a user I don't like and block him/her so I don't ever come across his/her posts? Or is this not an option on this site?

Go to the User Control Panel (above the post reply button) and your ignore list option is under Miscellaneous.

It takes guts to face your enemy's posts and skip over them. "Ignore lists" so you don't even see them are for lesser men....
