That's really, really excellently great. And when I say great, I mean horrible. Greatly horrible. Horribly great.

Verily, the missive inscribed by Filmmaker (an appellation I opine is incommensurate to his proclivity towards such adroit writing) is being indecorously vilipended!

There are those among you devoid of the requisite encephalon to countervail the impulse to litter this digital colloquy with such falderal that it devolves into an ataxia of imprudence. Vis a vis, you deign it compulsory (nay, comme il faut, as the nonpareil Godard once propounded) to deride that which this begetter of cinematic delectation has proferred. Do you find it inefficacious to envisage a convocation that shall facilitate the brand of luminous polemic specified in the inceptive communiqué? His ardor for candor and probity is not to be derided on account of the lassitude wielded by the indolent among you! The adjudicators who arbitrate the milquetoast brannigans that permeate that which is professed to harbor a free exchange of our suppositions indeed cosset the pedomorphic curtailment of that which he has importuned. Ergo, our call to alacrity: agglomerate an intimation!

This has enlightened me a great deal. A "No Holds Barred" Forum would be just be one for me to avoid.

We do this on another forum I actually administrate at, and I have to say it's not really a good idea. The mods on this forum do a nice job (except in the Star Wars threads which I know is impossible) of keeping really bad fights out of the forum. If you keep your crap up, you're gone. It's simple as. The mods do well here. Hell, I wouldn't mind being a mod here myself! Anyways, we tried it and it's fun for a while, but then it becomes a dead forum because in the end, it's just a novelty that's fun for a bit. It's really only useful in forums where the arguments and fighting is REALLY bad, and I don't see that as much here.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding the purpose for a 'No Holds Barred Forum', however, if it's basically a vehicle for verbal insult and fighting with others (via potty mouth and or name calling), I suggest if someone seriously has it out for another, email them. If you want an audience (or want to take it to another level), agree to meet at a local bar.

I think we need a forum to verbally attack people who repost excessively.

Edit: Ahhh you fixed it.

This is the worst idea evarr. Seriously, I don't think this is a good idea because this will definitely create grudges like others have said.

That’s what I love about this place that it’s not a stomping ground for people to throw topics that shouldn't be discussed on a website that calls itself "DVDtalk," there are other websites to flame each other back and forth. Please don't let it happen here.

Thanks for your feedback. At no time will we have a 'no holds barred' forum. It goes against the whole concept of having a forum on our site... A safe place for people to have discussions about DVD and related things.

There are plenty of 'no holds barred' forums online, and DVD Talk isn't one of them.

I clicked on this thread just because of who the OP is. I wasn't really reading everything, who is really, but when I saw this:

I really did laugh out loud, and that's not just net slang talking either. I agree with das Monkey, this thread brings the goods.

Not to mention everything that's been posted after that one comment.

That's a way better response than I would have replied with:

"Why can't people just not act like a douche in the first place?"

Thanks for just putting it out there Geoffrey. I wouldn't want to see such a folder here. One of the reasons I like it so much here is because we don't have anything like that.

Pound for pound this thread has more words than I'm used to. Later I hope to read them if I'm able.

I'd really like to agree with the General!

I mean, Adam's post looks very well written and most intelligent!

However, could someone out there please translate it into peanut language for all us illiterate slack-jaws and or low-brows?

YWMMMV.

(Aka: Your word meaning mileage may vary.)

Here goes...

“Verily (truthfully), the missive (letter) inscribed by Filmmaker (an appellation (term) I opine (preach) is incommensurate (not proportionate) to his proclivity (natural tendency) towards such adroit (skillful) writing) is being indecorously (impolite) vilipended (treating somebody with contempt)!

There are those among you devoid of the requisite (essential) encephalon (vertebrate brain) to countervail (exert counteracting effect) the impulse to litter this digital colloquy (discussion) with such falderal (silly nonsense) that it devolves (deteriorates) into an ataxia (lack of muscle control) of imprudence (gullibility). Vis a vis, you deign (condescend reluctantly) it compulsory (necessary) (nay, comme il faut, as the nonpareil (somebody or something unparalleled) Godard once propounded (suggest idea or explanation)) to deride (put down) that which this begetter (causer) of cinematic delectation (enjoyment) has proffered (offered). Do you find it inefficacious (not helpful) to envisage (consider) a convocation (formal assembly) that shall facilitate the brand of luminous polemic (passionate argument) specified in the inceptive (initial) communiqué (message)? His ardor (passion) for candor (frankness) and probity (honesty) is not to be derided (ridiculed) on account of the lassitude (laziness) wielded by the indolent (lazy) among you! The adjudicators (judges) who arbitrate the milquetoast (timid) brannigans (squabbles) that permeate that which is professed to harbor a free exchange of our suppositions (hypothesis) indeed cosset (protect) the pedomorphic (juvenile characteristics that are retained in the adult) curtailment (limitation) of that which he has importuned. Ergo, our call to alacrity (eager readiness): agglomerate (form a jumbled mass) an intimation!”
