Thread Moved - No Response Given From 6 Sources
I started this thread yesterday around 3:00 pm.
http://forum.dvdtalk.com/showthread.php?t=465397
Requested it be left in Otter even though it was a thread on the 25th Anniversary of Bob Marley's passing. Si ti certainly had musical connections. I was looking for stories and anything people might have to say if reminded of 05/14/2006. And I went to the Music Forum (MF) and found no post for this there.
2 hours later the thread moves to the MF and I send off 3 messages (Why do moderators not have email anymore? Why do they not have even some D-Talk email they can reference just for work? Is is a spam bomb problem? Obviously I should end out more emails/messages to moderators.
Nuff said.) to 3 of the moderators in the Otter Forum.
6 hours go by. The thread does not move. There are no responses to me.
So I send out an email to someone else. No response but 1 hour later the thread moves back to Otter. Huzzah! 1 hour later it moves back to the MF. So I have since sent out 3 emails to 3 other Members of Power (MOP's) here at D-Talk.
No responses from anyone.
No more movement of the thread from Otter to MF. And MF to Otter.
Still no responses from anyone.
I can understand anyone wishing to handle a situation in private. But when someone sends an email and there is no response what other options are there? The thread mattered to me. In my life it was an important Anniversary. But that does not matter. I expect there is a way for all the moderators to talk and decide on a course of action. Included in that should be a decision on who contacts the person. And if not there should be.
And I feel disrespected for no one answering my question.

It's a music thread. It belongs in the Music Forum. More threads in the music forum = more people in the music forum. Posts like yours or BobDole's just mess up the order of things.

When I saw your email telling me you had already sent emails to 3 moderators I sent an email to the moderator who had moved the thread to Music and told him that I moved it back to Other at your request but I wasn't trying to override his decision. Your request of not moving it out of Other because you don't go to the Music Forum was not sufficient enough explanation of why it belonged in Other in my opinion; I was just affording you a courtesy.
Soon after I moved it back to Other you made a post consisting solely of a song's lyrics.

Since there was no discussion in that post I agreed with the original move of your thread to Music so I moved it back. It's as simple as that.

Those forums are less travelled because everyone wants their stuff in the more popular forums. A thread like yours simply reeks of belonging in Music Talk. Just because you "don't go there" shouldn't be a valid reason for having it in Other.

My thread wasn't about music and I wasn't looking for the opinion of only music-oriented folks. Frustration with ticket brokers is universal, yo.
edited to add: in my ticketmaster thread you said it was the "second" music thread that I posted in Other - would you care to tell me what the first one was?

I'm not sure what thread he's referencing but maybe this one was moved to Music? Probably not. Or maybe he meant to say the second music thread you've started?
is Ben Folds's "B-----s ain't S--t" available on CD?

I think The Bus must be confusing me with someone. Probably another aging politician. It happens.
The grill is amazing. It was an xmas gift for my parents and they love it. They use it 3-4 times a week. It gets incredibly hot incredibly fast (~750 degrees in a few minutes) and has great heat distribution. If I didn't live in an apartment, I'd buy one for myself in a heartbeat.

I'm glad I put the thread up.
It was asking some people to post opinions or memories of Bob Marley. And it's strange, sometimes you do a thread and you can hear the response even if there are a slim amount of posts. You can hear people humming his music, searching through CD collections or thinking about him for a few moments. The best reason for ever posting. It honestly seems obvious from the wording that I was also looking for talk on the subject if anyone had something to say. The final post of "War" included the link to the speech it's based on that was made by Haile Selassie to the UN. This doesn't sound like typical music talk does it?
Is the content not the deciding factor in where a thread goes? And why is this so important? I can see cases where you have to make order. I'm a big supporter of order. But you have to make judgement calls. Is it a keyword decision? Should I mention Aunt Jemima, Chef Boyardee or Betty Crocker does the thread automatically go to the Food Forum?
"Betty Crocker - Lesbian Arms Dealer for the Nazi's?"
-What thread is this going in? Cooking? Politics? Sex? War? Otter? Tech Talk?
Robert Nesta Marley was special. As many of us know. And to a staggering degree his influence continues today. In Otter it would have gotten more posts and some more feedback. It is not a condemnation but simply a comment on the Music Forum that it came and went so fast. Their topics are from a different area and time. And this struck very few as worthwhile or interesting enough to take part in it. Obviously their choice.
I want to thank the following their posts and taking of their time:
David Manning
whynotsmile
LurkerDan
Tyler Durden
atlantamoi
The Bus
& Damfino
Josh Hinkle you have been acting like a mod for years here and you have still not become one. Is it starting to feel a bit frustrating? Disspiriting? Wildly unfair. Or simply an explanation in and of itself?
The original request was why was I not informed of whatever decision was made? It stands as the reason for the thread. All the mods can certainly talk together and reach some decisions when necessary. A standard would appear that someone would be chosen to take action/no action and than respond to the questionner. It is the civil and decent thing to do unless the members of this board are considered often not worth the time. Which seems patent wrong.
Small Axe
Why boasteth thyself
Oh, evil men
Playing smart
And not being clever?
I said, you're working iniquity
To achieve vanity (if a-so a-so)
But the goodness of Jah, Jah
I-dureth for-I-ver
So if you are the big tree
We are the small axe
Ready to cut you down (well sharp)
To cut you down
These are the words
Of my master, keep on tellin' me
No weak heart
Shall prosper
And whosoever diggeth a pit
Shall fall in it, fall in it
And whosoever diggeth a pit
Shall fall in it (... fall in it)
If you are the big tree, let me tell you that
We are the small axe, sharp and ready
Ready to cut you down (well sharp)
To cut you down
(To cut you down)
(To cut you down)
These are the words
Of my master, tellin' me that
No weak heart
Shall prosper
And whosoever diggeth a pit
Shall fall in it, uh, bury in it
And whosoever diggeth a pit
Shall bury in it, uh (... bury in it)
If you are the big, big tree
We are the small axe
Ready to cut you down (well sharp)

I have no desire to be a mod. Just like to express my opinions on the forum, and the mods and admins can consider them or just ignore them. Makes no difference too me.
I like threads posted in the proper forum. That's what they are there for. Other is just for the crap that doesn't fit in one of the other forum areas.
