Huge lag problems and timeouts...

I was wondering if anyone else is having this problem?

It took me about 10 minutes to be able to log in and get to this forum, and another 5 minutes for the New Thread window to open...

Of course, it has taken me several tries to post this, as well.

BigPete 02-15-06 02:52 PM

yes ... each link works on 1/10 tries ... times out the rest

squidget 02-15-06 03:06 PM

yes yes yes me too!

Since about 1pm EST. I was trying to post a thread about it. hopefully this message will post w/o timing out

Tracer Bullet 02-15-06 03:08 PM

Same here... started about 1PM.

Adam Tyner 02-15-06 03:09 PM

The load on the web server was astronomical, but it's eased back now (1.75 now; 543.91 was the highest I recorded during the freak-out).

Daniel-A 02-15-06 03:13 PM

Someone trying to DNS the forum? -eek-

Rogue588 02-15-06 03:25 PM

I was thinking i'd have to physically run my posts cross-country...

yes, it's still going slow as shit...

ChrisHicks 02-15-06 03:38 PM

slow as hell for me too...

Y2K Falcon 02-15-06 03:42 PM

<just kidding response time sucks>

Same here.

DGibFen 02-15-06 03:50 PM

Still lagging quite a bit on my connection. Not having a problem with other web sites.

Josh H 02-15-06 04:18 PM

Still terrible here.

543.91 :whofart:

Yeah loads like that just don't happen unless somethings up:)

El Scorcho 02-15-06 05:13 PM

It's Das Monkey. It looks like its a DNS attack but it's really him trying to post in every single TV talk thread at the same time.

dick_grayson 02-15-06 05:33 PM

maybe it's just a coincidence, but it seems to happen each time before I see the sex offender google ad.

Patrick G 02-15-06 05:36 PM

It's still HORRIBLE.

AGuyNamedMike 02-15-06 05:40 PM

I pretty much gave up on the site all afternoon. Seems to be fine now though.

GeoffK 02-15-06 05:54 PM

Since yesterday DVDTalk.com has been under attack. We're working on finding a way to defeat the attack. It's a pretty bad attack.

Numanoid 02-15-06 06:18 PM

I'd just like to point out that I had nothing to do with it. NOTHING! I'd also like to point out that Groucho borrowed my "How To Initiate A Denial Of Service Attack And Influence People" handbook yesterday.

AGuyNamedMike 02-15-06 06:50 PM

Say Geoff, if you get any verified IPs, post them. heheheh.

Ranger 02-15-06 09:19 PM

i'm no server admin but couldn't you have the guys running the server to have their firewall block the hacker?

I'm not sure of the nature or what was involved in this attack but you would have to put the block in far enough "upstream" that you still had a decent bandwidth to allow stuff other than the junk traffic. For example if someone launches a DoS against your DSL connection and you put up the block on the "local" side of your DSL you still have all the traffic going over the DSL clogging it up before it is dropped by the local firewall/block.

GeoffK 02-15-06 10:36 PM

This is a really bad attack. The attacker is requesting a file from thousands of spoofed IP addresses. We're working to figure out how to deal with it and are facing being blown off the net because of it. Until the person stops.

eedoon 02-15-06 11:42 PM

Man, is this one of them zombie attack? I had a few horror stories about those zombie computers.

Anyway, good luck for you guys. I hope the site will be back on normal soon.

I don't understand why someone would want to do something like that. Are they just evil? Do they even have something to gain? I hope they get caught and raped while in jail.

Daniel-A 02-16-06 01:07 AM

Yeah, really what is to gain by disabling a site such as this. The site isn't large enough that whoever is doing it will get some cred for doing something. Sorry Geoff tough break. Hope things get cleared up.

NotThatGuy 02-16-06 01:32 AM

So far....looks like it is back up.

Fok 02-16-06 01:36 AM

Hope the asshole dies for doing this.....fucker!

The Infidel 02-16-06 02:42 AM

Only way I can get into the forums is with the button at the top of the home page. The drag-down on the left just refreshes the home page, and all drag-downs within each forum take you BACK to the home page. I hereby petition the government to give all convicted hackers the death sentence.

EDIT: Never mind. The drag-down is working again. :)

I noticed the front page won't link to the forum either...preventative measure?

Bandoman 02-16-06 07:36 AM

There has been talk recently of Middle Eastern hacker groups planning various attacks on European and American websites - I wonder if this was a test of some sort? I also wonder what other sites faced similar problems?

Hmmmmm.... Interesting that you didn't post in this thread until AFTER the threat has passed, and you immediately come in to lay down a smoke screen.

Your IP has been logged, sir! :grunt:
