Huge lag problems and timeouts...

I was wondering if anyone else is having this problem?

It took me about 10 minutes to be able to log in and get to this forum, and another 5 minutes for the New Thread window to open...

Of course, it has taken me several tries to post this, as well.

BigPete 02-15-06 02:52 PM

yes ... each link works on 1/10 tries ... times out the rest

squidget 02-15-06 03:06 PM

yes yes yes me too!

Since about 1pm EST. I was trying to post a thread about it. hopefully this message will post w/o timing out

Tracer Bullet 02-15-06 03:08 PM

Same here... started about 1PM.

Adam Tyner 02-15-06 03:09 PM

The load on the web server was astronomical, but it's eased back now (1.75 now; 543.91 was the highest I recorded during the freak-out).

Daniel-A 02-15-06 03:13 PM

Someone trying to DNS the forum? -eek-

Rogue588 02-15-06 03:25 PM

I was thinking i'd have to physically run my posts cross-country...

ChrisHicks 02-15-06 03:38 PM

Y2K Falcon 02-15-06 03:42 PM

Still lagging quite a bit on my connection. Not having a problem with other web sites.

Josh H 02-15-06 04:18 PM

Still terrible here.

543.91 :whofart:

Yeah loads like that just don't happen unless somethings up:)

El Scorcho 02-15-06 05:13 PM

It's Das Monkey. It looks like its a DNS attack but it's really him trying to post in every single TV talk thread at the same time.

dick_grayson 02-15-06 05:33 PM

maybe it's just a coincidence, but it seems to happen each time before I see the sex offender google ad.

Patrick G 02-15-06 05:36 PM

It's still HORRIBLE.

AGuyNamedMike 02-15-06 05:40 PM

I pretty much gave up on the site all afternoon. Seems to be fine now though.

GeoffK 02-15-06 05:54 PM

Since yesterday DVDTalk.com has been under attack. We're working on finding a way to defeat the attack. It's a pretty bad attack.

Numanoid 02-15-06 06:18 PM

I'd just like to point out that I had nothing to do with it. NOTHING! I'd also like to point out that Groucho borrowed my "How To Initiate A Denial Of Service Attack And Influence People" handbook yesterday.

AGuyNamedMike 02-15-06 06:50 PM

Say Geoff, if you get any verified IPs, post them. heheheh.

Ranger 02-15-06 09:19 PM

i'm no server admin but couldn't you have the guys running the server to have their firewall block the hacker?

I'm not sure of the nature or what was involved in this attack but you would have to put the block in far enough "upstream" that you still had a decent bandwidth to allow stuff other than the junk traffic. For example if someone launches a DoS against your DSL connection and you put up the block on the "local" side of your DSL you still have all the traffic going over the DSL clogging it up before it is dropped by the local firewall/block.
