Satellite Radio forum needed?

Could go under Entertainment Discussions alongside TV Talk, etc.

I got hooked up with Sirius for Christmas. I'd be interested in DVD Talkers takes on programing recommendations. Also deals on hardware. I'm salivating for an S50, but don't have iPod-type bucks at my disposal just yet.

Maybe a general "radio" (satellite, terrestrial, podcasts) forum instead? There are a couple of podcasts I'd like to discuss, but there's no fitting place to put threads about them.

I think a general 'Radio' forum would be a great idea!

I doubt it would get enough traffic. The music forum is a tad slow as well, maybe just rename it the the Music, Radio and Satellite Radio forum to steer more discussion there?

First and foremost I'd highly recommend The Jay Thomas Show:

http://www.jaythomasshow.com

Monday to Friday 2 pm - 6 pm ET
The topics on Jay's new show range from the sublime to the ridiculous and everything in between. The Jay Thomas Show takes a light-hearted approach and a middle of the road political standpoint. Past guests include Geraldo Rivera, Meredith Viera, Mike Ditka, George Foreman, Joy Behar, Mario Cuomo, Don King and many others.
And yes this is the same Jay Thomas from "Mork & Mindy", "Cheers", Murphy Brown", "Mr. Holland's Opus", etc.

Probably one of the most underrated shows on SIRIUS: In Bed With Robert Evans:

http://www.therobertevans.com

Saturday 12 pm & 3 pm ET
Robert Evans—the notorious Hollywood legend behind such films as Rosemary’s Baby, Chinatown and The Godfather—is back.
It does take a little while to get used to his voice, but once you do he's a pretty informative fellow and an excellent storyteller. BTW, the site isn't fully updated...it's on SIRIUS Stars 103.

Another somewhat underrated show is Four Quotas:

http://www.observationalhumor.com

Four Quotas is one of the most talked about shows on satellite radio. Hosted and moderated by Steve Hofstetter, this often controversial and always hysterical panel features four comedians each filling a different quota. Think Tough Crowd meets Whose Line Is It Anyway, except Four Quotas has never been cancelled. Every Saturday at 7PM ET/4PM PT, a white comedian, a black comedian, a female comedian, and a wild card will rip on each other, discussing everything from current events to their sex lives (but mainly their sex lives). And in case you miss an episode, they re-run it at the same time on Sundays.
The Wiseguy Show

Wednesdays 6 pm - 9 pm ET
Rebroadcast Saturdays & Sundays 4 pm ET
Join host Vincent "Big Pussy" Pastore and his posse for a celebration of life, the arts and meatballs, only on The Wiseguy Show. Produced by musician, actor and SIRIUS creative consultant "Little" Steven Van Zandt, The Wiseguy Show features prominent guests from the Italian-American community, humorous discussion of current events, movie reviews, skits, sex advice and interaction with SIRIUS listeners.
This is probably one of those shows you'll either love or hate. Personally, it took me awhile to "get it"...but it can definitely grow on you if you give it a chance.

Lyin' Cocksuckers

Mojo Nixon's Lyin' Cocksuckers
Saturday 6 pm & 10 pm ET
Outlaw Country // Ch. 63’s Mojo Nixon is saving his Saturday nights for some good-old fashioned ranting and raving. By Lying Cocksuckers, Mojo is of course referring to politicians. He won’t take your calls. He won’t have any guests. And no, he didn’t consult legal counsel on the name of the show. All Mojo, all the time, with no commercials because no company has the balls to sponsor him.
Pretty self-explanatory.

And obviously Howard Stern and his programming.

SIRIUS Disorder (a music channel) has some excellent music-based programming:

Perhaps it could be a sub-forum of the Music forum.

That would be my vote.

I would start them all in one and then see if subforums are merited based on the traffic.

Could we still separate programming from hardware? Or at least the Stern/O&A programming?

It would make it easier than filtering through hundreds of "Sal is being an asshole" or "isn't Artie hilarious" posts.

In a perfect world (I posted something similar to this in another thread), I would prefer 6 basic threads:

Official XM hardware Thread (O&A/Stern-free zone)
Official XM programming Thread (O&A/Stern-free zone)
Official Ongoing O&A Thread (Stern-free zone)
Official Sirius hardware Thread (O&A/Stern-free zone)
Official Sirius programming Thread (O&A/Stern-free zone)
Official Ongoing Stern Thread (O&A-free zone)

I would recommend the Derrick and Romaine show, weeknights at 6-10pm EST on Sirius OutQ, 106. Yes, its a gay show, but it has a big straight following, and can be downright filthy.

Sure, that could be discussed in the programming threads.

Any hot discussion of specific topics that got lengthy could be moved to politics.

I would hate to see all these threads in MusicTalk. I'm sure a sub-forum of MusicTalk would have at least as much activity as, say, BookTalk.

In fact, maybe we should integrate RadioTalk and BookTalk.

I think that's a great idea but there's more than just Stern on SIRIUS and O&A on XM as far as talk programmng goes. Maybe those two threads should be the "Official SIRIUS Talk Thread" and "Official XM Talk Thread" so it can reflect ALL programming both have to offer.

I don't think they'd all stay on the front page very often, especially the hardware ones. Those threads, when they've been posted in tech talk or music talk tend to fall pretty quickly.

But I don't think it's a big deal since Music Talk never gets a page worth of new threads in a day anyway. It's lucky to get a page of new stuff in a week a lot of the time(at least since Cottington is gone ).
