Obnoxious Sin City banner

It has the lamest "thunder" sound effect I've ever heard and it doesn't stop! In fact it's on this page as I am typing right now! The first time I heard it I thought I had a fan dying in my computer. It took me a while to realize I had my web browser open and that it could've been an ad. I realize you don't make the ads and you don't choose what comes up, but I couldn't stand it anymore and I had to complain! :wallbang:

Oh, there's a mute button on the top left corner of the banner. For some reason it's the same color as the background, but it worked.

Thank you! This ad has been driving me insane. I was getting it on every single thread I looked at, although it's stopped doing that now.

This banner also eats up resources. I left IE open to dvdtalk one night when I went to bed and I woke up a while later to my computer beeping from overheating. Went away when I killed the banner/IE.

Yeah, it slows my browser to a crawl when it comes up - really annoying!

I'm getting this damn banner again with the loud thunder/rumbling. I'm getting really tired having to hit refresh all the time to silence the ad.

Geoff, pretty please, kill this banner and please don't put up any more ads with loud noises.

I kinda like this ad and the recent 24 ad - so visually impressive but sound is disabled in my browser.

You can right click on the ad and uncheck play or loop and the ad should stop but once you reload it, it'll replay again.

How long will the ad run?

Sorry guys... Got to pay the bills, and this ad is a LOT less intrusive than some DHTML page takeover or other option we could have had to run.

This banner will run till 12/19

Repeating loud rumbling thunder is pretty intrusive and annoying to me. Thanks for the info though. I'll come back on the 20th when this thing is gone...

BTW, the banner shouldn't have sound on by default. I'm on Firefox and don't hear a thing unless I click on the sound icon on the banner... What browser are you using?

Geoff, you should go back to the creative team who did this banner and give them this feedback. I'm sure they would really appreciate it and also would most likely fix it for you.

I'm using Opera 8.5 and the sound is on by default. I have embedded sound turned off.

I'm using Firefox too and I have yet to hear anything (I see the ad plenty of times).

I'm using Opera.

Thanks for letting us know that it's going away soon anyway. I'm not sure if you should show this thread to whomever is responsible for the banner. I see one of two possible reactions:

1. They realize that we don't like it, and quit making banners like that.
2. They find out that it gets noticed more than any of their other banners and it becomes the new standard.

I use Opera, and this banner has been driving me totally insane since it first started. The first time I heard it, I seriously wish you guys could have seen my reactions. At first I was looking around my room wondering what it was, then I started going over my entire computer trying to figure it out.

I think this is just part of Geoff's plan to drive some of us crazy.

Sorry Geoff, haven't been on the site until the ad was gone. I'm also using Opera.

I said I would come back on the 20th, and I stayed away as promised. Not a big deal, and I'm cool with that, but just letting you know as a customer that the ad was obnoxious enough to me that I chose to stay away until it was gone. Consider this nothing more than good old fashioned customer feedback.
