Unable to send private messages?

Hello,

When I try to send a private message to someone, I get forwarded to this message:

abrg923, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

Why am I unable to send PMs?

You can access email and other info if they let you. For example, I can IM mkdevo, or you can send an email to me. Funny that you'd complain and not let people email you...

The email works almost as well (assuming the person didn't register in 99 and forgot to update the 6 times they have switched email addresses), and in some ways even better if the folks actually check their email as much as if not more than they visit the forum. And someone won't get your email address just by trying to send you something, so your address is safe from spammers.

Just be careful who you "reply" to.

I guess my question is why that option is even on the menu. Would it be that hard to take off and avoid the ambiguity? I'm guessing maybe certain folks DO have PM power here, and if you can't take that choice from the rest of us without breaking the folks who can use it...
