I was actually thinking about the need to clean these up the other day and was thinking that we could do some stickied threads for a week or two to get the users' input on what smilies are "needed".

You could do one were people pick their to 10 favorite or most used smilies and then, after the voting period was over, someone could tally up all of the votes and there would, most likely, be a pretty natural break in the popularity based on the votes . . . keep the ones above that, lose the ones below it.

Then the other thread could be used for nominating new ones . . . although, that would probably require a follow-up "vote on the new nominees" thread after the nominations were collected.

I'd even be willing to run them and do the tallying if you wanted me to.

There was a thread not too long ago where a ton of smilies were added. Most of those have gone completely unused since that thread.

I wasn't convinced that a new smiley was needed until I noticed that NEEDED was in all caps. Now I'm all for it!
