More Obscenities, Please

Now that we can all use the word "fuck", I think DVDTalk needs to go all the way and just get rid of the word filter entirely. There aren't that many words left that you can't say -- ***** and ********er come to mind, obviously, and I believe you still can't say **** -- but we're all adults here, and I think we can mind our Ps and Qs. There are times where all three of these words would come in handy, especially in the Adult Forum. (And of course in any earnest discussion of kitty cats, hot dog eating contests and in any mention of the only extant species of the primate family Hominidae.)

Plus, doesn't the word filter take up server resources? Wouldn't disabling it ease the load on the servers?

As always, I am merely looking to perform a civic function...

The **** thing is pretty rediculous. When was the last time someone called another person a ****? The 80's?

Isn't it about time to uncensor ****?

I do not see the term **** (as in **** sapien) used as a derogitory manner towards homosexuals in any threads. In fact, I never have. However, I do see it used to describe **** sapiens, **** habilis, **** erectus , **** heidelbergensis, etc. If it were used in a derogatory manner, I have got to believe that someone would alert a mod, just like any other attack. But it seems so asinine to actually have **** censored when it is used as a scientific term every time I have see it. Can anyone point to an example where it was used as a derogatory term?

I feel like I am in the 1st grade, except that I can say fuck, shit, dick, penis, and a host of other words, but not ****.

Please enlighten me.

Another point. If I were to actually call a known homosexual a ****, and it came out censored...just like now, wouldn't I still be breaking forum rules and expect a suspension, etc? If so, what is the point of censoring it? Especially given that it is used as a scientific term in every single instance I see it.

I assume a mod would just "fix" the offending word as they suspended me, just like the fix posts with offensive content now.

I just wanted to add that this can be annoying in the adult forum when someone posts a legit link to a video or photo and one of the words in the link gets censored thus ruining the link.

Please ban the word "DVD" from this forum. It is offensive to my religion and I demand equal protection.

Eh.....that wouldn't be real satisfying, I suppose, but it would be nice to hear the reasoning, and see if this has even been a problem.

I think he has more important things to deal with (i.e. fixing the server so it stops slowing down) than removing the block on some "bad" words....I'm sure he'll get around to this thread but..It's not a top priority ...

I enjoy saying the word fuck just as much as anybody, but there are always alternatives. Watch Goodfellas on the USA channel and you can learn a lot about equally satisfying ways to express yourself in a fuckful way.

Just replace the normal words on the left with the words on the right:

Fuck - Freak
Fuck you - Freak you
Mother Fucker - Awwww Freak you, or You mother you!
Shit - Shoe!

I actually used the word ********er in a poem that I posted here, and had to take it out when the forum censored it.

Freedom of poetic expression, man!

(Oddly enough, I think I can say each word seperately... "cock" and "suck". I can even hypenate: cock-sucker. Or euphemize: corksoaker.)

Note to mods -- not trying to bypass the forum word censor, which is a violation of forum rules -- just posted for discussion.

Yeah, it's lame. The argument is that certain ones are more likely to be used in personal attacks.

But that seems stupid as personal attacks already get suspensions/bannings regardless of whether or not the involve obscenities.

If you're going to allow some, I say allow all and just suspend/ban people who use them in personal attacks. Hell, if you're that worried about it, make a rule that using an obscenity (have a list) in a personal attack is an automatic ban for new members, and ban on second offense for longer term, contributing members or something.
