Too many threads from one poster...

on the first page. Didn't there used to be a rule against this? Or at the very least mods sometimes stepped in and stopped one person from dominating the front page. I'm talking about the music forum here, and anyone who's been there lately should know exactly what I mean.

It's made even worse when the threads are fairly obvious trolls posts.

I don't think the threads are troll posts, which in a way is even sadder.

I've lost it in the new thread:

http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthr...22#post6388422

9 threads on page one are too much I say!

EDITED TO ADD:

"...as important as yours."

I submit that 99.9% of threads are MORE important than his, but thanks for the gesture, X.

Heck, I'd be happy with a One and Only Cottington Thread that is made sticky.

I think they must be. Parts read like Patrick Bateman's music rants in "American Psycho." In fact, someone even posted a part of them in response as a joke.

Also, it looks like MANBREASTS -- a trully wonderful name -- is another account made by Cottington to respond to his own threads. Just ban his ass.

Either that or Phil Mickelson has way too much time on his hands.

the poster in the music forum has been here before---anybody remember these same type of 'pop music masterpiece' topics promoting all sorts of vanilla musicians like Mandy Moore and American Idol puppets around 2,3 years ago? he's harmless and at times hilarious in his (presumed) sincerity, but nonetheless annoying.

I've wondered if Cottington and Lucy Monostone are related.

I don't understand why a mod isn't kicking his butt.

Help me pop this in his troll threads if I miss one.

If he's going to crap in our forums, we can crap in his threads.

Except that posting new threads is not against the rules (so long as it doesn't go over the limit), but threadcrapping is.

Every one of his threads turns in a discussion about him and not the subject, which is, IMO, more annoying than the topics he creates.

If it bothers you so much, do not click on threads he creates.

Normally, I'd agree with you 100%.

But...

1. He starts numerous of these threads just to annoy people. Thus he's a troll and trolling is against forum rules.

2. There's a high probability that he's a returning banned member as these types of threads were posted for a while a year or two back before the guy got banned. Thus that's also against forum rules.

3. There's a high probability that he created a second account to respond to himself as noted above which is again against forum rules.

I cannot fathom how this troll has not been banned yet. The mods are either all on vacation, or the quality of moderation has dropped.

Two new ones, same pattern:

<a href = 'http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=438624'>The Pussycat Dolls : "PCD"</a>

<a href = 'http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=438647'>Buffy the Vampire Slayer : "Once More with Feeling" Soundtrack</a>

He/She's back up to 7 threads on the main page (or did I miscount).

So add to my list...

4. Is ignoring a mod warning to keep number of posts down.

Your threadcrapping and thwarting of the intent of the forum censor may very well get you suspended first.

Forum censor?

I just assumed the sight I linked to went down as I couldn't find it again and downloaded the pic from another board and uploaded it to photo bucket.

If it was removed by a mod, a note would have been nice.

At any rate, I'll stop now, but I'd really like to see the mods deal with this situation.

Between this going on for a while, an no warning from the "forum censor" it seems like the mods are slacking lately.

I guess looking at the URL of a link that stopped working was too difficult to figure out. I'll keep that in mind for the future.

I see you changed the links now, sorry, I didn't think to check that when I saw the red X.

Please post a note next time when removing images so people are clear on the issue.

Not too difficult, I just didn't bother as I had trouble getting the direct link to work yesterday so assumed it was just an issue with the site that was hosting it.

Looks like again 5 on the first page of Music Talk (after either a merge or delete earlier today) still isn't enough:

Looks like the issue is being dealt with. We should drop it.

Great. Right after I went out and bought the entire Alyssa Milano back catalogue in order to participate in the discussion.

Or both

For myself, I was on a long vacation from which I returned less than half an hour ago. (I'm posting after 24 hours on trains, planes and more trains).

I think I can now disclose that I did send the late Mr C a friendly warning a month or so ago to back up something I'd said last year when, if memory serves, he received a short suspension.

However, I am happy to say here that giving a troll attention and/or taking a thread off-topic has been advised against publicly in Music Talk and specifically in past threads of the now-banned member.

There were a few people that actually had something to say in his threads and, IMNSHO, the major problem was the quantity of new topics posted rather than the banality of his apparent taste.

Anyhoo, its all over now. Until next time.
