I guess you can excuse anything around here as "just joking" when you use one of these
Well, we all have different thresholds for taking offense. I'm pretty happy with the threshold for DVD Talk as it is.

I can see where some might find the Gallagher joke offensive but the Ghost dog comment was pretty tame. Everyone here is a wannabe comedian. There are things that offensive said every day in the otter. Just because its not funny to you doesn't make it racist.

I think the jokes are too subtle, we need more blatant racism.

Asian people eat a shitload of rice. Cubans are black beaners. How the hell is a racial group's preferred diet a negative stereotype?

It has been brought to my attention that all black rappers have gold teeth.

Racial stereotypes are not made up. There is a certain degree of truth to all of them, which is what makes them funny to point out. I do not find this to be racist, by any means.

For example, I am Asian, and a very bad driver. I also eats lots of rice and have slanted eyes and bad teeth. I have no problem with said stereotypes, since for me, all are true. Maybe I just have thicker skin then most. More then likely, though, it's because I just don't give a crap. I love Don Rickles comedy routine. 'nuff said.

so because it doesn't bother you, it shouldn't bother anyone else. that makes a lot of sense.

You mean there are people out there that are actually sensitive to this stuff? I never knew. I thought I was speaking for everyone.

Nowhere in my post did I imply I was speaking for anyone other then myself. I thought the second paragraph made that clear. Apparantly not.

When people are using it negatively to imply inferiority/make fun of other racial groups.

I'm not that sensitive to those kind of "diet" jokes, but some are.

I thought you did imply it in your post. I guess not. Me so sorry!

Would love nothing more, but unfortunately, people's sensitivities aren't what they used to be.

How will we log on w/o a PC? Oh, you want DVDTalk to be Mac-only

I'm sure there are other forums on the internet that aren't full of racists like DVDTALK. Why don't you try to find them?

I didn't know DVD TALK was full of racists?!?!? Is someone having a case of the Mondays again? I swear I'm not one of these so called DVD TALK racists; I've slept with every woman I could regardless of ethnic background. So there's no way I could be one!

That my friend would be racial profiling! All PCs to the back of the broadband; all Macs up front!

"Young people" - so what? I really don't want to live in a Disney cartoon. Bring on the edgy humor.

As far as the Forest Whittaker thread, it was pretty damn funny and not a bit racist. I was about to nominate it for the archive since I was laughing for a full 5 minutes. For those who missed it, it went something like this:

OP: What type of martial arts did Forrest Whittaker use in <movie>?

Original Desmond: Fat ***** fu

Poster #1: oh boy

Poster #2: Goodness gracious me!

...

Giantrobo:

Poster #4: Ok, we can laugh now that the black guy thinks its funny.

Poster #5:
What the heck is racist about that? Every use of the n-word is not necessarily racist. If anything it is a commentary on how today's PC environment can blow a simple joke way out of proportion and make people uncomfortable.

That would if funny if it was not true.
