eBay forum

Any thoughts on starting an eBay forum? I know Other already has 3 subforums, and this would probably be the straw that kills the camels back, but I think a LOT of people would benefit from such a forum.

What would be posted in an ebay forum?

If it ever arrived, would Other be the place for such a sub-forum or should it perhaps go in Stores?

Not a bad idea.

Would allow members to post links to their ebay auctions without cluttering the forum.

And I'd like to be able to buy things from members off of ebay rather than just arranging a purchase in the forums as at least you have more of a safety net with Ebay.

this will screw things up worse. The sub forum will be full of simple threads advertising their auctions and how do you know which forum members to trust and which ones not to? Post? Folks can pad their way to the top and folks can also be lurking. So that's no indication of a good poster or not. Besides the point self promotion like that isn't allowed. The site needs advertisers to pay like anyone else promoting a product. This goes through and that sub forum would be total crap and cluttered with auction post opposed to questions and suggestions on how to sell on ebay as I assume was the original intent of the idea.

I've seen plenty of things other than Spam being sold on Ebay. Although Spam is mighty tasty.

I think the point would be to discuss how to best handle eBay buyer/seller situations, listing techniques, and discussion of eBay tools.

but is there enough of that in the already existing OTHER forum that warrents it to have its own sub forum?

You could still go by the good trader thread still, and their e-bay/half.com feedback to decide who to trust.

I just like the idea as I don't have time to skim e-bay/half.com often, but would definitely keep an eye on a sub-forum to see what DVDs and games members were selling. And again you have the added protectoin of being able to file claims with ebay/half if the deal goes sour.

No axe to grind but, if this was to be agreed, maybe it would have to be a general auction/trading (sub)forum - not just eBay - and one where PayPal threads, and chat about any other internet-based payment solution, would be on-topic.

As I've said before, and I will say again, only let members with a post count of say, over 5,000 post their links. Hell, even 10,000 posts. This would assure us that the person was legit and was a member of the DVD Talk Community.

Why would post count be the factor in who can or can not do it? This would only encourage padding. I thought Goeff didn't want post count to become important.

^^^ exactly. besides that, you spam your auctions enough and you got yourself some street credability.

You could always let people put a small link in their sigs that says "My Auctions", and then the EBay forum could be where we post nutty off the wall auctions and get all snarky and whatnot.

Or even make a little "ebay" icon to go with the different messenger links. Formatted correctly with an affiliate link, DVDTalk could make some decent scratch.

Yeah, post counts would be a terrible idea.

If there's any restrictions, I say wait until there's paid memberships and make it a paid members only area.

I still don't get the concerns over trusting members. It would be absolutely no different than using the good trader list and/or ebay feedback now when making a DVD or Video Game Exchange in the forums here now.

As for spamming issues, just strictly enforce 1 post (in the ebay forum only) per auction.
