Firefox crashing on this forum?

Hey all,
It used to happen intermittently, but it's been happening more and more often. When I use firefox, and I have a bunch of windows and tabs open, this forum seems to crash the browser. I'm not sure if it's an ad or what. Anybody else experiencing this?

Hmm... I've never experienced this. I think Geoff now uses Firefox, too, so I imagine he'd be the first to notice a problem. Weird.

Try running FireFox in SafeMode via Start>Programs>Mozilla FireFox>Mozilla Firefox (Safe Mode) or via Start>Run and copy/paste
"C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -safe-mode
and click OK

Recreate the "bunch of windows and tabs open" and see if it still crashes. If it doesn't, It probably is a bad extension and/or theme as being the most common.

Well, I do have the session saver plug in, so that is probably the culprit. It's just odd, though... it doesn't happen all the time, but it happens frequently enough that it's not just some random thing.

This forum is very Firefox friendly. I've had no issues whatsoever. I get occasional crashes with Quicktime content though. But nothing here at dvdt.

I've been crashing on the forum a lot the last couple of days... It's like a random ad is the cause, as it only happens occasionally and not in any specific forum. I've never had Firefox crash on any other site since I've been using it for the last six months.

Yeah it is happening to me as well. Crashes all the time on this forum. Don't know if its an ad or what. The only extension I have is the yahoo toolbar. Nothing else.

That was weird. I was just browsing some threads and FF crashed. Opened it back up and it crashed as soon as I came to DVD Talk. First time that I can remember that happening. Thanks for breaking it, fujishig.

You're welcome!

What's worse is that I have session saver, so it remembers what each tab was browsing when it crashes (or is closed). So I once had it crash three times in a row...

Ah well, at least I'm not alone. I felt kinda dumb after the first couple of replies...

Its crashing so much on me know that I have to use IE to access the DVD Talk site. I have no idea what is causing it and DVD Talk is the only site I have any problems with. It started doing it with version 1.0 and it seems to get worse everytime I upgrade.

I've completely wiped out FireFox and reinstalled it, but the problems remain.

I'm having the same problem. It has only been the last week or so. I can read the thread titles ok but, when I enter a thread it crashes. Seems like a banner ad issue to me.

edstein and darkside, How are you removing Firefox completely? If you are just removing FF from the add/remove programs applet,I believe, it still leaves your profile behind on your Harddrive. Do you have any adblock software/filters installed?

Have you tried the Firefox SafeMode method?

I was having the same problem about a week or two ago but in the past week it hasn't crashed once. And I didn't do anything to "fix" the problem either so I'm hoping it was just some ad.

I removed it through add/remove programs and I deleted the folder in Program Files. Not sure if it saves stuff anywhere else.

The only thing I have installed in Firefox is the Yahoo toolbar. Don't know if that might be doing it.

I have Symantec Antivirus, Microsoft Antispyware and Adaware Plus running on my PC. Don't know if they could cause any issues.

I haven't tried Firefox SafeMode.

Very strange. I USE FF as my primary browser and haven't had a problem yet. The only thing I can think of is that perhaps it has something to do with flash. Make sure you have the flash plugin installed as there are ads on the site which run flash.

I am glad I am not the only one having this problem.
I also use the 'Session Saver' extension, so that could be the problem. It just started happening about 2 weeks ago, and I haven't changed anything to my browser in quite a while. I am guessing it is an ad of some sort.

Perhaps Java needs to be disabled in your browser?

Are the other people that are having problems using Flash block? I was using it and forgot to allow this site. When Geoff mentioned Flash plugins I remembered and disabled the extension. Before that FF crashed on me 4 times in a row after I had clicked on this thread. Hopefully that will do the trick.

Well, it's not Flash block, as I don't have that, and I just reinstalled Flash to see if that was the issue, and I still got booted.

I'm not desperate enough to switch back to IE, but I'm getting there...
