After FF crashed for the 4th time, I used IE for a second (and felt dirty) before I thought about Flash block. Did you try disabling session saver or isolating other extensions to see if they are the problem?
Disabled all extensions, still having the problem. Something in that "beauty and the geek" thread in the TV forum seems to be triggering it quite a bit, so I have to believe it's some ad that's doing it (assuming the ads are targeted somehow).
I disabled Java and Javascript and that seems to have fixed the crashing I was having. Not sure what could be causing it, I have yet to have it happen on any other site.
Java in Firefox is pretty flaky and a security risk so it's better to disable it. Javascript is also a security risk, but many websites require it for some features - like the drop down forum menu. I have Java disabled but javascript enabled and also have the latest java runtime environment program, and firefox seems to work okay.

I use firefox all the time on two different computers and have never had a problem with this site.... (have found a few others that mess it up, including boxofficemojo oddly)
Turning off Javascript worked for me. I still have Java enabled and no problems there.
Nothing like that is happening here, and I've been using Firefox for a few weeks now.
Firefox crashes for me just about every time I come here. I got a new PC recently, and since then it started - never happened before in Firefox. I am using the newest version of FF now (1.04?) and wasn't before - I wonder if that's the issue. If I disable Javascript it doesn't crash, but having it disabled makes a lot of things NOT work on other sites (and I can't open the Smilies page here with it disabled). Grrr..... Guess I'll use IE when I come here.

Just verified that 9 times out of 10, going to the second page of the "Beauty and the Geek 6/1" thread in TV talk will crash my firefox browser.
http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthr...=425012&page=2 Can someone else who's firefox is crashing go to this page and reload a couple of times? I'm fairly positive now it's an ad problem |

No crashes for me here.
Weird.
No crashee here. FF 1.04. 8 tabs open. Reloaded on page 2 a bunch of times. No extensions installed, I'm running pretty much bare bones FF. Perhaps FF is making a judgment call on the thread you're reading? ; ) |

UGH! In the past week it's been happening again to me but only here at DVDTalk. It's to the point that I'm scared to come here because I know there's a good chance FF will crash.
The last time I tried to do a "fix" and Norton said "Access Violation" and specifically said this site......whatever that means. |

I'm not desperate enough to switch back to IE, but I'm getting there... :) I figure as long as I use a program called privacy keeper to clean out all temp folders etc... after my last browser window is closed and another program called crap cleaner to tidy EVERYTHING up one a day, I should be fine. |
I also use Firefox and I haven't experienced any crashes. But I have noticed once in a while when I visit this web site, Firefox would become unresponsive. When I open the task manager to look at which process is hugging the CPU, it's always Firefox. After I went to Firefox web forum and read about any bugs in Firefox, I found out there is some issue with Flash not playing properly in some situation in Firefox.
Well, I haven't experienced the problem in a couple of weeks... but only because I finally switched back to IE, just for this forum. If anyone ever figures it out definitively, I'd love to know!
I just started having it happen today. Crashed on me 4 times. I've rebooted and it hasn't crashed again yet.
I crashed 4 times trying to read this thread:
http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=428979 When I turned off java and javascript, I didn't crash. However, when I don't have these enabled I can't switch forums from the pulldown. |
Nevermind... I found the culprit (at least in my case). It was an extension (LinkedIn). When I disabled it -- no crash. When I enabled it -- crash.
I'm pretty sure that's what all of these crashes are -- extension-related.
