Return of the King ad stops my browser
Anyone else having to reload everytime you get the "THE KING RETURNS / THE QUEST CONTINUES" LOTR: ROTK flash ad? It stops the loading of any content below it, and basically halts everything until it's done playing. Takes 20-25 seconds. Happened to me all day. 5 times just in the past few minutes in the feedback forum.

rotfl &

.... Finally a victim of subject editing. :(
(And the real irony is that i got the ROTEK ad while trying to reply to this thread. And yet again it stopped the page from loading.) |
Slows down my browser (Firefox 1.0) too as long as the "flames" in the ad are visible.
|
slows my machine to a crawl....
IE 6.0 |
No problem here on IE 6.0.
|
Yup, it's been happening to me on every page it shows up on (IE).
|
Yep, on my P3 733mhz machine it sucks up 100% of my CPU and just hangs the page. On my P4 2.8ghz machine, it doesn't affect a thing.
|
slows my ie 6.0 to nothing... i thought it was the new forum software, but it only happens with that ad
|
Yeah, while this ad runs, I cant surf here at all. The damn thing feels like it takes like three hours to load! I could watch the movie in the time that it takes for the ad to finish it's cycle.
Just one more reason for me to hate lord of the rings, I guess. |
My CPU load also goes straight to 100% when this ad is on-screen. I just refresh and move on. Speaking of annoying ads, there was one popup that I always used to get here that had some kind of javascript error. The popup would have a 404 message in it and there would be a seperate error message box that I would have to close as well. My popup blocker never caught it. Thankfully, I don't think I've had that problem since the upgrade.

The ad completely freezes my work computer for about twenty seconds. It is starting to make me look back fondly at the second film, something I doubted was possible. It is evil. The following swearing is not supported by myself in most cases and is only used when under extreme duress.
#$%$@^&&&*%$%@#$#@!!!#$ Thank you. |
Freezes my home and work computer, though a refresh gets rid of it
|
The ad blows.

I've been trying to figure out if it is the Return of The King ad or the ad that comes after the first message that is dragging me down to a crawl. Have fixed it for now that when I visit DVDTalk I go into my I.E. and click off all multimedia including "show pictures". I can still read messages and I cruise pretty fast in here now!
|
DVDTalk has certainly dropped in quality since the upgrade. My IE freezes too when that damn ROTK banner ad is playing.
I can understand the need for advertising but this is truely ridiculous. |
I hate it.
I hate it. I hate it. I hate it. I hate it. I hate it. I hate it. I hate it. I hate it. I hate it. I hate it. I hate it. I hate it. I hate it. I hate it. I hate it. |
When I see that "The King Returns" bit, I hit refresh as soon as I can. Otherwise, my page will take a few minutes to load...
|
Argh...this ad does completely suck. I've never had an ad do this to me on any website before. (IE 6)
|
I'll contact the ad agency in the AM... Something must be wrong with their flash files.
|
yeah this ad slows down my computer a somewhat (both work & home) but it's not as annoying as the 8 emails i got within the last 2 days from various sites. not to mention all the threads about this boxset...you'd think it was being released soon or something (sarcastic tone)???!?! with all this hype it almost makes me want to sit down for the first time and watch all three.
|
I just came to the Feedback forum for the first time ever to post this. It's really annoying.
I'm using Safari in Mac OS 10.2.8. |
I swear its coming up even more now.
|
Now the goddamned ad is giving me a runtime error popup every time the stupid thing shows up. This is stupid - I'm all for ads to help run the place, but not when they start effecting perfomance like this.
How long do we have to put up with the damned thing? |
I dont know what we did to make you hate us but please make it stop. We learned our lesson.

The flash ads don't really slow my computer, but what annoys me is when I switch to another window and then back to the window with the flash ad, the cursor in the box disappears because the flash ad is stealing focus. |
please kill it.
|
Oh - its even better: the ad loaded then crashed my browser (A diffrent computer than the one that was giving me the runtime errors).
Any word from the agency on just HOW much ass this ad sucks yet and what they intend to do about it? |
I have three windows open.
It is on each of them. What did I win? (Funny how it's come up most often when I check this thread!) |
Word.
|
When is this ad going? It's getting real annoying now, as it seems the chances of it popping up on a page seems to have increased.
|
Now it's coming up on about 4 out of 5 pages I open (sigh) really irritating
|
same here.. coming up with more frequency
|
How much are you getting for this particular ad? I'm sure we can get up a collection to replace any lost income if you just remove it. It's affecting me even worse than that SonicSwap ad from a few weeks ago.
