And STILL we have no option for AVATARS? tsk.

The reason I like Avatars is that they help me to quickly:
a) locate my OWN posts (visual is MUCH easier than reading User Names)
b) recognize certain Users' posts, by their Avatars, who I particularly enjoy reading — and conversely, avoid others without having to place them on an IGNORE list

This is a huge disappointment.

I'm pretty sure that avatars are not going to show up on dvdtalk... at least not unless they are included for future premium paid members... seems like there was a discussion about it a long time ago where we were all told that it was a decision made to help reduce bandwidth usage.

i believe most people agree avatars are a terrible idea

btw.. we have threads for what you like and dont like about the new software

really, no reason to start a new thread for every thought that comes into your head

avatars could be made available inside our profile
so if someone wants to post a picture.. you can look at it in their profile

but i dont think we need to see it in every post..

One of the few things I like about this forum is that I don't have to look at avatars. Not that I visit too many forums, but those things are annoying.

Even if Geoff enables avatars you'll have the ability to turn them off in your user CP.

well, I find them deeply offensive...oh wait, wrong thread...

as I was toolin' around before hitting the sack, I noticed that there's a Show Avatars option in our User CP, so the people who don't like 'em could leave that unchecked.

personally, they don't bother me.

NOW, not listing the title of the episode in the thread title over at TV Talk...THAT bothers me...

I sure hope that they enable this. My avatar will be a brooding anime guy.

Yeah they need that bandwidth for them extra ads you're going to be loading now :P avatars are fun I would not mind them.

It can also add personality to the poster.

I'm gonna go against grain here - I like of like them. And if there's a "show avatars" toggle, so much the better - choice is always a good thing.

those ads by google have been here all along.. and they are text based

avatars are images, and require much more bandwidth

sure.. we can turn them off.
but the extra bandwidth hit to the site caused by the kids that want to see cartoons next to their name, will be felt by us all

can't the size and resolution of the avatars be set for least impact on the server?

That's all well and good, but how will people know that I like Homer Simpson?

Another vote for none.

Can't stand avatars. If I need my avatar fix I'll head on down to IGN, thank you.

For the record... I DO like Avatars, the issue has always been a technical one.

I don't think allowing avatars a big deal. I've already unchecked "Show Avatars" in the settings in case they show up eventually. Anyone else who doesn't want to see them can do the same.
