I, and at least a few other members don't like to post their signature twice on the same page or in the same thread, to save space or just so it's not all over the place.
So on the quick reply can you add the option where you can click-off "Show Signature?"
I've seen it on another vBulletin board before, so the option at least exists. It would save the time doing an edit. I'd appreciate it if it's possible (...and it does save bandwidth!

Would this really save that much bandwidth to make it worth the trouble of fixing? Most of all, I use quick reply for pretty much every thread I reply to. The option wouldn't be there so I doubt many would actually take advantage of it.

It would be quite useful and would probably be very easy to set up. Over time, and depending on the members who'd use it (some don't feel like seeing their sig every time they post) I bet it would save bandwidth. And with it below the quick reply box, it would save three pages from loading.
Edit ----> Load page to remove sig
Post Edit -----> Load page that thanks you for editing a post.
The thread ----> Re-load the thread page yet again.
Those add up over time.
But, it would make it easier for at least me. I do know that other people won't post their sig multiple times in a thread. That's why I asked. It's easier for some folks, and it will indeed save bandwidth.

i would use it
back before quick reply.. i typically would try to uncheck the sig box anytime i had multiple responses in the same thread
of course.. lately my sigs have usually only been a line or two, so its not a major deal

Since additional HTML would be present on every page of every thread, wouldn't that mean that unless this feature were very, very widely used (which is unlikely), more bandwidth would be sucked up rather than less?

It seems to me a better way to save bandwidth is to have smaller signatures.

I understand it may not be workable, but I've sometimes wished we had this option.
I sometimes feel like an idiot posting in a thread about a sick relative or deceased pet, only to look under my sentiments and see some silly quote from a stand up comic or movie.

Personally, I like to include my sig in the first post in a thread, and then turn it off for further posts in the same thread. (I think twikoff suggested it way back when.) But, since the site the buttons are on is blocked to me at work, I don't have that option and can only use Quick Reply.
Frankly, the only way something like this would work is if you had to click to include your sig. I don't think many folks would take the time to click to exclude it from a post. Maybe 5 or 6 of us?
On a semi-related matter, it seems to me that email thread updates is (are?) not working for Quick Reply, even though I have that option turned on in my profile. Yes? No? It's always been that way and I haven't been paying attention?

How about this? An option in your profile that says something like "Post signature once per thread?" that'll automatically include your sig only in your first post to the thread.

or better yet.. an automatic setting.. dont even give them the option of allowing it to show more than once per thread

Similar to Groucho's thought, but not as hard to code around.
Other boards have, in your user profile, an option to have sig ALWAYS ON or ALWAYS OFF. Then each person can have their preference, and if I wanted to deviate from that preference, I just wouldn't use "Quick Reply" on a specific post.
I prefer this to the "once per thread" method, as in today's day of 100 page threads, that option has less bang for the buck.

Kind of pointless for it to show up every time one replies to the same thread. Once per thread is enough.

It's about three lines of regular text, if that. (on 1152 x 864)It's a minor thing that would be of some convenience to myself. It's not a big deal if there's no way it can be done or if it seems unnecessary.

You know bandwidth isn't measured by weight. It's measured by number of characters transmitted. And even the HTML that needs to get sent to people's browsers to indicate the smaller size of the characters adds more to the load than normal sized characters would.

Good to know that information, though.
Would a space use any more bandwidth?
Edited to add this edit from above:
----
I get 4 lines of size 1 at 1280x1024.
----
Yeah, I get about the same. What I meant was if it were the default text size, it'd be about three lines worth. But I am sure you knew that's what I meant.

Your quote had to fall on the cutting room floor.
But I save every signature and the occasional great/stupid quote from the forum, so it isn't lost!
