ClockSync ad (attempts to install program)?

Is there a banner ad running that attempts to install some sort of clock utility program? I got it once and ran Spybot, thinking that maybe it was spyware, but I just got it again. If that's the case, then is there a way that I could pay DVD Talk what they're paying it and get rid of the darn thing?

I've got hit by that ad three or four times, annoying but harmless as long as you don't click Yes

SearchdInst.exe

I'm on a Mac, so this doesn't really effect me much, but lately when I've been coming here I'll suddenly start downloading this file. It only happens on this website. So what is it and why does it have to download all the time? Is it some gay spyware junk? If so why is it part of DVD Talk?

Have you run a spyware detector yet?

If it is spyware, I doubt that it has a sexual preference. Also, please don't use "gay" to describe something that you don't like... it's offensive to some people.

Thank You, The Cow

No wonder, I never saw it, it is listed in my hosts file.

And if it is in my hosts file, it can't be a good thing!

Sheesh... I don't mind having ads on this site, but if they're gonna be dumping spyware on people's systems for an extra buck now, I'll gladly find another message board to post on.

Glad I'm on a Mac

i am not saying that it is spyware but it does look suspicious

It would be of benefit to others members, if a member who actually click yes would do an Adaware scan and post a hijackthis log.

Geoff makes it a point to not have "annoying" ads present. He recently switched to a new ad network. I'm sure once he's aware of it, he will get it removed.

add the line to your hosts file (copy and paste), if you don't want to see the popup anymore

I'm afraid all these ads are coming from a new ad network we've been working with.

I've shut off ALL their ads until this can be addressed.

Banners that spawn downloads are the LOWEST of the Low, and I've made extremely expicit instructions that they NEVER run on our site. So if this is from that company.... I might Donald Them.
