Should we have a seperate 'Politics' forum?

Personally, I'm sick of all of these threads about the election. There's 10 on the front page right now, which sucks.

Anyone else think we need a political forum to itself?

It's been brought up many times and many agree there should be one, but there's some... reason.. they haven't done it yet.

I'm all for bringing back the War Room.

I don't think it's needed. I can ignore ten threads. As long as the moderators do their jobs and keep endlessly similar threads from spawning...

I could ignore them, but we shouldn't have to. I mean, I'm sure there'd be less talk about books in this forum than politics, but they seem to have their own nook for some reason.

Yeah, too many political threads, Michael Moore threads, libs/cons suck, and the place starts to look like usenet.

This really belongs in the Feedback forum... FWIW though I think there should be a separate Politics forum/sub-forum in Other.

Yes, but since I disagree with Tarantino about so many other things, I am torn.

We should have a 'Should we have a politics forum?' forum for everytime someone brings up this question.

A temporary Presidential Election forum might be a good idea when we get closer to the election, but I still think a seperate political forum is a bad idea.

For one thing (as Pharoh said in another thread) it would be difficult to decide what goes where. When does a thread about a current event stop being just "news" and become "political"?

But more than that, I've always felt that keeping everything together encouraged members to participate in threads they wouldn't normally, as well as providing distractions to the political regulars, so that they aren't just posting in the political threads all the time. And the feeling of community that the Other forum generates also helps, in my opinion, in keeping even more people from going overboard in how they post in the political threads.

It's actually encouraging me not to come into the Otter forum, because it seems like every other thread is a political one.

I don't think it's that hard to decide where a thread would go.

Generally, I don't know that we need a separate political forum. For better or worse, it's part of Otter.

In Presidential election years, especially this year things when will get pretty heated (like they have already a few times) a temporary political forum seems like a good idea. I don't actually think it has generally been too nasty so far (other than the various Michael Moore threads) but as we get into fall, I'm sure it will start taking over/getting vicious. Might as well make a special forum for the people who actually enjoy it.

58 to 11. What is the reason for us not having a political forum?

Just a guess, but maybe it's the same reason we don't vote on what the rules are and the page layout is.

the big thing is.. the vote is so one sided because of the enormous amount of political threads right now
so really, the voting results are very tainted

its been my assumption that a temporary political forum will be put in place as the election continues to heat up and we get closer
but then after the election and insueing events.. the political threads should die down to a point that a political forum would no longer we warranted..
