i cant help but notice there have been quite a few free ipod threads closed lately..

some for referral links.. others because it seemed the consensus is that it was a scam

but I just noticed we now have an ad in the rotation for one of these sites..

can we assume this site has been verified and is legitimate.
or is this advertiser a scam, harvesting email addresses?

let me look in to it. Probably comming form one of the ad networks we use.

its would be sweet if one of the free ipod deals is legit..
but its hard to imagine

although I dont believe they are in it to harvest email addresses as I first said.. Im sure they are in it for the money they make when you sign up for the offers through them..

we would be much better off just getting everyone to sign up for those same offers using dvdtalk as the referral.. and skip the full free ipod scam..

after doing some research, these offers do seem to be truly legit. The same company also has free flat screen lcd/tv and free desktop pc deals similar to the free ipod deal.

being that they advertise on this site and it does seem to be legit, what would be the harm in allowing a post in the free incentives forum where people could exchange referall links and get free stuff??

until Ive heard a real story of someone legit getting one.. I still would be leery.. sure, there are stories of people getting them.. but its always a persons friends, cousins, uncles, roommates, sister.

and why not allow the referral links?

1. because this site already has a banner to them.. using your referral link would defeat that

2. its against site rules to use referral links

3. its still a pretty strong suspicion that its a scam

i posted a thread in Other about it. WIRED did an article and supposedly its legit. they make tons of money off the trials you...more than enough to cover the ipod

People are regularly banned for spamming self-promoting links and, strictly speaking, I think it is seen as a suspendable offence for any longer term member that "tries it on".

My iPod and LCD TV are on order from this company. I hope I have a good enough name here that you'll believe me if and when I get mine!
