With the availability of the new improved STL system, I was wondering about the necessity for the STL thread. The thread takes more steps to search for an existing title and is painstaking to gather the various e-mail addresses for sending love.

Thanks to bbox's (Josh Pearson) new system, it's a cinch to input new titles, cut and paste e-mail addresses and browse through new entries for ideas. (And no more problems with redundant titles, slow loading or broken drop-down menus. ) Because many members may not be aware of the improved system, some users may double-request in the thread to cover their bases. It would seem much more efficient and result-friendly for everyone if we all used the system -- once they try it, I know they'll love it.

Yes definitely. There needs to be an announcement mad eon the front page, and a visible link on top to the STL system, like there are links to Reviews, Coming Soon, etc.

I hadn't been in the STL forum for a while, so I'm just finding out about the new system. Why in the world are people still using threads to make requests? The way the forum is now, it's actually WORSE than it was before, because now you need to enter a title in the spiffy new system AND post a request in a thread, lest you lose out because half are using the system and half are using threads.

Well the simple answer may be that the "new" way doesn't work. I've requested several titles to an alternate e-mail address as a test and gotten nothing. And these weren't niche titles - we are talking the popular ones. I ditched it.

After about 10 STLs, we are all pretty much on each other's list. I don't think I'd really even have to post to a STL on something I want now. And I've slept with everyone each of those people have too!

I added two things to my STL list on the webpage, didn't post on the forum, and within i'd say 10 days, I had a STL on both..I think it works..somewhat..if there was no place in the forum, people *would* use the webpage, and there wouldn't be a need for botrh

There seems to be about 5-6 people who include me in on just about everything they buy. I'm getting a couple STL emails a day at this point. It's pretty rare that I have to ask for anything any more.

That's exactly how I feel, and why I think the deletion of the STL threads would make for a more effective one-stop request system. Some people just stick with the old and familiar even if it's more painstaking, and only the deletion of the STL thread would encourage them to use the STL system. All I know is, when I send love, I'm cutting and pasting from the system, not collecting e-mail addresses one-by-one from the threads.

I don't buy enough for Amazon to make this worthwhile but I know some Book Talkers have been interested in the past.

Could any of the experts reading please edumacate me here as to whether the STL forum "works" for books such that we could usefully link to it and do away with in-thread requests?

While some may see this as a 'cool' thing, I find it very annoying that people end up spamming my email account with items they buy at Amazon that I have not asked for. People like Elena Parfenova, who apparently purchases things every other day. There's sharing love, and there's sharing the spam. Please address the abuse of the STL lists.

Just e-mail the person and ask them to take your e-mail address off of their Friends & Favorites list. When someone Shares the Love with you, you are automatically added to their Friends list, which means whenever they purchase something, you will receive a discount for that item, whether you requested it or not.
