damn, that banner ad is annoying as hell. I was just going to create a thread to complain when i saw many others had beaten me to it

I hope the extra cash this site gets for that crap makes up for the amount of people they are pissing off.

THE ONLY SOUNDS I WANT COMING OUT OF MY SPEAKERS ARE SOUNDS I ASK THE COMPUTER TO MAKE!

As many of you know we're no fans of ads with sound, but they are a reality of accepting studio advertising and paying for the costs associated with running the site.

I can say that we were able to get the video ad rather than the DHTML splash ad like what ran for freddy v. jason, so while it may be annoying, hopfully it's not as bad as those ads.

Also the volume of the video ads is pretty low, so if your cookies are all enabled for the site, you shouldn't see it very much at all.

We appreciate your feedback on this and always forward it to the studios so they know how people feel about certain ad types.

Is there a set number of times it should appear per hour or is it totally random?

the video banner should only be 1x per 24 if your cookies are working

I am getting this ad almost every time. The sound is horribly annoying.

What are some alternatives that people could offer to help the site make money? Or is this just a bitchfest?

While I agree the ad is annoying, it's a necessary evil. Same thing as commercials on television.

There is another flash banner which has sound, that creepy woman saying 'Oh my my my' but you should ONLY get the sound if you roll over the banner.

It's probably also good to note that many of the other DVD sites out there are carrying ads for this campaign and most of them have a pop-up with sound which we aren't running!

Thank the heavens that my sound card at work is busted!

I've learned to surf DVDTalk in silent mode... (speakers turned off!)

While annoying, I'm glad that Geoff is getting something out of it...

I'm just curious about whose research indicates to them that banner ads with sound reel in more clicks, as opposed to annoy the crap out of people. Find me the people who think, "Oooh! A talking ad! Me wanna clicky!" when they hear "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" come over their speakers.

This thread is probably enough research for them. We are all talking in this thread about the ad, regardless of if it is negative or positive, it was noticed.

My cookies work fine and the other night i got this ad on every other page I loaded it is ridiculous. At work I generally have my speakers off unless I am listening to music, now I will be careful though. What is the timeframe for this ad?

It's a conspiracy so we will all sign up for premium memberships!!

I must admit I don't like the talking ad, but if it brings more money in to DVDtalk then i'm all for it.

Can you forward our feedback to the studio in the form of an annoying sound file that plays at inopportune moments?

Just checking...
