Why Can't I Post??

Odd thing...... First my signature disappeared, then after I reset it the next day I can't reply to messages. Why is that?

Possibly Geoff didn't like my signature? I wouldn't know since I haven't heard from him or anyone else from this site. I checked the rules. Unless I missed something, it doesn't say anything about getting someone's permission to quote them. And my signature was simply a quote from Geoff stating the obvious "we're not the only kid on the block".

Did I hurt your precious feelings Geoff??

Under your old name, it says suspended.

Seems strange that someone who is clearly so keen to obey the letter of the forum rules could have missed this one....
YOUR MEMBERSHIP TO THE DVD TALK FORUM IS ALSO PREDICATED ON YOUR ADHERENCE TO THESE RULES. If you violate any of these rules your account will be suspended and you may be permanently banned from membership at our discretion:

ABSOLUTELY NO:

• Registering more than one account. (If you share a connection, please contact a moderator/administrator before signing up another account or BOTH will be terminated.)
.... especially given that Geoff recently posted a reminder.

Oh well.

Oops, missed that rule. I doubt anyone reads and remembers all the rules. I did review the rules regarding quoting others (odd that no one has responded to that......)

I'll try to not use this "other" name. Shame no one told me I was suspended or for how long. Oh well, I guess their members aren't important to them.....

Did you read this rule?

ABSOLUTELY NO:

Attacking or harassing any moderator or administrator on the forum or via email.
Do you think quotes like:

Did I hurt your precious feelings Geoff??
or continually referring to Geoff and his actions as a "failure" or as "weak" from your abrasive, belligerent posts in this thread would qualify? I do.

So far the sequel appears equally as inferior as the original.

I just didn't like the framing used in the sequel. The art direction left a little to be desired as well...

I'm curious why having more than one account is not allowed. BTW, I only have one.

In general it's because Geoff is trying to create something of an online community, so it helps that other members (and the mods for that matter) always know who they're talking to (at least based on past posts).

Obviously, if someone starts posting under more than one username, it becomes much more difficult to know who you're talking to.

On the annoyance factor, it tends to just get used for jokes and, of greater concern, for making personal attacks or other antagonistic posts.

It's also been a tactic used by people who spam the site, to make it look like "other people" have used a product or site with success, when it's really the same person who posted the product or site in the first place.

In this particular case, when one is suspended, it kind of defeats the purpose of the suspension if you are allowed to simply create a new username and thereby continue to be able to post on the site.

Hope that helps.

There are definately standards that were set, and obviously weren't lived up to, as noted in this post....The sequel to LOTR just didn't cut it.

And to think this whole mess could have been avoided with a popup-blocker.

I was thinking how strange it was for a newbie to be objecting so much to pop-ups and taking Geoff to task on it.

Then I remembered that jim in cincy has been around here for a year and a half.

How ****ing sad (for me, I think)
