Do you think that stops people from filing lawsuits?

Ah, clever fellow - give the people more incentive not to get banned!

True. As for your second point - have you seen People's Court?

Well count me in. I've saved way more than $30 from this site and would be willing to give back

I hate avatars. Please don't include them unless there is a way to hide them.

Where do I send my money? I want this. Please?

People need to remember that if they don't like what you get for $30, nobody is making you pay. In fact, you lose NOTHING at all... you get to participate in this forum as it has always been, which is awesome.

Only pay the $30 if you think it's worth it or you want to support the site.

For me... it's worth it just for the ads since I spend so much time here. For a brand new user, I can see why they might wait a bit. That's what is great about this system... new people can come in and fully participate (except in a members only forum of course) and in time, I would think they would take the step up to membership after they have seen the wonders of this place.

Still nothing to lose for people who want to continue here as-is, and the added functioanlity for members will be great.

Well thought-out, Geoff. I think this will be the next phase of your penitration.

Hey Thor,

Just a reminder: $6781.77 - $30 = $6751.77

Considering I've spent over $3,000 in the past week and a half, that doesn't mean much to me.

Geoff, is there an ETA on these features?

For the level of entertainment I get from this site, and the convenience (of no ads) and features talked about so far, count me in.

Any idea around where the Lifetime Membership price might be at?

also depends what kind of guarantee (if any) would be behind a lifetime membership?
in the off chance the board closes up in the relatively "near" future.

I'd probably just sign up annually (even though I'm not going anywhere anytime soon) unless the lifetime membership rate was REALLY attractive from the start, or came with extra benefits.

Since the actual benefits are somewhat limited, my suggestion:

$25-$30 lifetime
$5 annual

I wouldn't pay any more than that for lifetime, especially since there is no guarantee what "lifetime" is. Could be 3 months from now.

I would hope people would have more faith in DVD Talk than that.... I mean we've been around for almost 5 years and there's no indication that we won't be around for another 5 years.

I'm thinking the lifetime will probably be equal to about 2 years of memebership. Something like 30/yr 60/lifetime

Think of this on a per month.... Annual is $2.50 per month and lifetime if you have it for 5 years is ~ $1 a month. Not bad in my book.

Also I should hope the fact that we're not rushing to impliment the service is some indication that our situation isn't dire. We're doing the service as an option for people who don't want ads and want the small perks which come from premium membership.

That is the exact recommendation I was going to make. But I also don't think the lifetime membership should be more than $30 or $40.

I have to say seems kinda sad here people say they saved hundreds of dollars here, but don't wanna dish out more then 10-15 dollars. It's 30 dollars for heavan sakes. So you have to wait an extra week to get that new release.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to imply that I had little faith in DVD Talk. I should have made it clear that I was taking into consideration events that would be out of the control of the management. I'm just saying it's not completely improbable that this site could be a memory at any time. As unlikely as it may seem.

Given all the risks in the world a $60 lifetime DVD Talk membership is a pretty safe bet. The biggest benefit will of course be that you pay for the membership once and never have to worry about it again.

I've heard rumors that Al-Qaida is targeting this site after they get finished in Iraq.

Maybe that is why Bush is keeping the soldiers in Iraq. As long as AL-Qaida is fighting in Iraq Dvdtalk is safe.

Maybe Bush is an Otter

Now that you mention it, I think I saw Bush in the mature forum.

Geez, I almost feel like I should apologize for that joke.
