A "Copy Your DVDs" popunder coming from here?

Just got this:

99% sure it came from here, and even more sure that this is exactly the wrong ad for this place, IMHO.

I'll check the ad network we use for pop-unders and see if it may be coming from them

It came from a network we use and I had them remove it immediately and informed them not to load DVD copy ads into our account.

Also for the record. We've turned down a significant dollar volume in advertising for DVD Copy software. While the Software itself IS legal, a significant number of its users use the products for less than legal activities (like pirating DVDs).

why turn down the money though if the site needs it? will it adversly effect your relationship with other advertisers (like stuidos)?

Yeah that and also it would give a negative image to this site as I don't think any reputable site would have those ads, and also there is a no bootleg discussion rule here so that would kinda be hyprocrisy.

I think so. And thusly I think Geoff is overstating it a bit when he says he's turning down a high $ volume. He'd get the $ from there, but ultimately cost himself his relationship with the studios.

Actually theres never been an issue with a studio saying that they won't run ads if we are also running ads for DVD Copy software. Sometimes there are bigger issues than money. In the 4 1/2 years of running the site there have been many opportunities which we've turned down because they weren't in the best interest of our members.

We always try to work with the best sites and companies to advertise and so the issue with the DVD Copy ads come more out of a vision of who we are as a site than anything else. I also think it would be slightly hypocrticial to be closing threads in the forum about backing up games and downloading movies and mp3s while promoting a piece of software that let people copy movies.
