The rich media ones definitely suck.

How long are they going to be around?

Till around the 23rd.

I think there is a max of 10x that you can see the ad. So for most of you the rich media part will be over much sooner.

I found the ads to be quite cool. They sparked my interest in the movie, especially after answering the questions for the sweepstakes, then I read the DVDTalk reviews . . . . . .looks like I won't be renting it after all...

WTF!@!!!@!@ I sincerely hope this isn't going to be par for the course from now on here. There is nothing....AND I MEAN NOTHING!!! that is more annoying than those DAMN POP UP ADS!!!!!!! I have never and will never buy anything that has to do with a pop up ad(even if I need the product).

And putting that aside, the movie....well I won't waste my breath

Am I the only that this ad pops up for on every page I look at? (and I'm not switching pages only every 15 minutes) It even came up on this reply page.

Haven't had this problem before

those rich media ads really suck, I hate pop up ads with sound

and why does the normal pop up ad have to come up almost every refresh or new page you go to? isnt it enough to come up once the first time you enter the site? I know if I didn't click it the first time of the day I definately would not click it the 2nd or 5th or 20th time

Argh, I get this popup on EVERY page I go to. Every single one! Am I doing something wrong?

Hmm...I guess I'll get a popup blocker.

Ten times? You mean ten times a day, or ten times total? I can assure you I've closed that damn_box 20, maybe 30 times already. After closing it quickly a number of times, I figured maybe if I took the test (which was pretty stupid BTW), it would set a cookie saying, "okay, he completed the test, we'll stop bothering him now." But no, it still comes.

Intrusive web advertising, like telemarketing, has the opposite effect on me. If I was ever inclined to try a product, I surely wouldn't after this type of marketing. If this ad had one popup that used cookies to verify that you only saw it once, then I'd be far less annoyed by it.

I understand that ads keep the site running, so do what you have to, but Warner can go to hell with their damn_movie.

The sweepstakes could never recognize I was already signed up, so maybe there's a general cookie/recognition problem.

OTOH I don't mind the rich media ads, as long as they didn't have sound. You can have Monkeybone dance around the bottom of the screen for all I care, if that's what it takes to run this site. If I can PayPal Geoff $5 (which I've done before) to have them gone, so be it.

"DO YOU LIKE TO WATCH???????"

This flux of media rich ads with sound, popups, and adult dvd banners aren't very forum friendly... but whatever...

Given the choice between paying for forum access or rich media pop-ups, I would rather pay for access. I understand the need to generate revenue, that's what being in business is all about but generating revenue with intrusive ads is not an activity I can support. Since the pop-ups will probably be around until the end of the month I will just taks a vacation and not visit dvdtalk. See you in February.

not a fan of the pop-ups. i don't have my speakers turned on, so i didn't hear the sound tho. anyways, it's not a big deal. if this is what's needed to keep the forum free, then so be it.

I'm think I'm having problems from the ad. Not just the fact that it's wicked loud compared to other sound programs that are running, but occasionally when I open a page here my speakers pop very loudly three times. This isn't when the ad pops up, just when I go to a page and the banner loads. Not cool...

Put me down as one that finds the feardotcom ad extremely annoying.

I hate ads like that and have always appreciated (in the past) that dvdtalk did not use "rich media" ads on their website.

I agree that it will turn users off (like me).

I understand Geoff needs support to run the site, but not with ads like that...

Agreed completely... There is nothing on the internet that is more annoying than these ads. Nothing.

But do what you have to do to keep this site running...

As for Fear.bomb, any chance (and it was damn_slim) that I would have rented this stinker is long gone.

Unfortunately we all don't have the opportunity to work for Warner Bros.

It's been far more than 10x for me. Ten times this morning, maybe.

Watch and learn (just quoting for reference):

IE 6.0.x (should work for other versions)

Tools >> Internet Options >> Advanced Settings
>> scroll to Multimedia >> uncheck Play sounds in web pages

Seven more days to go!
