I agree. And I've been known to cover some dubious fringe titles that many'd unfairly label "porn." But whatever happened to that mystical "back room" of the video store? I think that lack of boundary is what folks are reacting to. I doubt the majority of us object to high-brow adult coverage, but only prefer it not be quite so mainstreamed throughout the site.

Probably most at issue: The front page Blue Room blurbs, racy titles listed on the review page and the "After Dark" advertising (not being quite so after dark for all visitors).

first off, I do very much appreciate and value all your feedback. We have made changes to things (especially in the adult space) based on feedback from our members.

One myth I think I need to dispel, is that DVD Talk is NOT for minors. Legally, you can't join our forum if you are under the age of 13;

In compliance with The Children's Online Privacy Protection, you MUST be over the age of 13 to register for Membership in the DVD Talk forum.
and realistically I don't think that the content on this site is really suitable for anyone under 17.

In terms of the time zones, I do realize that DVD Talk is an international site, but when we look at the bulk of our traffic when we set the zone for adult ads, we have over 80% of our traffic coming in from the us.

We do what we can to be as acomidating as we can for the international audience. We have the leading resource for Regional Coding Enhancement (http://www.dvdtalk.com/rce.html) and our giveaways are open to people around the world (most if not all the other sites limit their giveaways to US only), we do this at great expense as sending a DVD to Australia is like 3X the cost of the US.

Also, we turn down a great number of adult advertisers to keep the saturation of adult advertising low. These are companies with check in hand and we've told them no.

All our adult ads are screened before they are put into rotation, and we've removed ads because of member feedback. The Adult sections are seperate, and while we do promote the adult column <a href="http://www.dvdtalk.com/adult/">The Blue Room</a> on the front of the page. Many times titles covered are not listed because of the name is graphic.

As several of you mentioned here, it's a balance. We do what we can to keep that balance as good as possiable. Some of you find adult material completely offensive and we respect that. But we do feel it's an extremely legitamate area of DVD, one where people who are interested in it have expressed a desire to get information on what to buy and where in an environment where there aren't a million porn pop ups and the reviews don't have extremely graphic images from the movies.

Keep the feedback coming. I read every single post here in the feedback forum and do take what you have to say very seriously

also, if you or anyone in your family are offended by the porn references, try to set your internet browser to "13 and up". If you do this, the porn banners will be filtered and you could not view or see them. (my school does this, as some of the banners are blocked, and since I can view this site at school, I know it isn't set for "kids only". If you have AOL, it is easier to do.

Well, I'm glad that there are a few people who feel the way I do.

Again, I enjoy porn, but I believe that it should not be part of the mainstream area. The Five Star DVD and Adult DVD Empire banners cheapen and sensationalize the look of this site. The women, no matter how sexy, make the whole thing look tacky. It has all the appeal of some college kid hanging a poster of some Playboy bunny on the wall. Really cool...not.

Also, I am in agreement with Mr. Gross's observations about a lack of a boundary. Why not separate the good taste from the...not so good? The Blue Room should be relegated elsewhere (like some Easter Egg or something like that).

I am closing this thread. After doing a little digging I've discovered that the original poster of this thread has another account on the forum and that this whole thing may be more than just a little feedback.

I welcome any of you who wish to provide feedback about this issue or any others to open up an additional thread.
