Star Wars Threads

Too many Star Wars threads.

OK, now I realize that Star Wars is all the rage and all right now, it's natural I suppose... But have you seen the number of threads? I just counted <b>15</b> on the first page of the movies forum alone...

Yes, I know this is nothing new and I suspect that it will die down in the next couple of weeks but_damn!

I hold no brief for that forum but if the mods are on hiatus, which could possibly be the case, I'd suggest you email an admin.

To help out, you could say which threads you think are closeable, out-and-out duplicates and which you think safely could be merged.

At a brief glance it could be that <b>bothanspy</b>'s "one and only" is due for a part two.

Sorry, I had to work this morning. I'll be heading over there and trying to clean things up a bit.

Thanks for your patience.

Were you going into Toshi Station to pick up some power converters?

Sorry, really geeky Star Wars joke...

As I posted in blade's thread in Movie Talk, I don't think limiting the number of threads is fair. People should be able to discuss whatever they want, as long as they aren't posting duplicate threads. I think the best solution is to make a temporary Star Wars AOTC subforum to handle the posts for a couple weeks. The same thing can be done with any future movies that generate this much discussion. That way the star wars fans can discuss till their heart's content, and the haters don't even have to see the threads.

Here's a re-post of the email I sent to Blade:

(Personally I'm all for as many Star Wars threads as interest the visitors of the Movie Forum. Limiting their number to appease a vocal minority that don't like all the attention the film is generating is simply not the way to run a film forum. Sorry. It just isn't.)

Let me be the counterweight to the whining about all these Star Wars threads.

Let's face it. Without a doubt, it's the biggest thing happening in film this weekend. What's the harm in having a bunch of Star Wars centric threads for a weekend or two?

Should we all stop obsessing over Yoda and Dooku and start posting about Hugh Grant's "kickassedness" in "About a Boy?" Please. Let's get real here.

It's the internet. It's a Star Wars movie. The two go together like peanut butter and jelly.

Be somewhat lenient with the closing of these threads.

Or else I'll have to "complain" because there aren't enough Star Wars topics in the Movie forum.

(In fact, now that these threads have all been closed willy-nilly, why don't you just go ahead and put me in that "complaint" category? There aren't enough threads right now to handle the massive interest in the new Star Wars film that are open in the Movie Forum. Personally I hate when a thread gets to be more than 2 or 3 pages in length. The conversation tends to drift and virtually no one has the time to sift through all that information. I'm all for allowing every thread associated with Star Wars be left alone.

No more closures please.)

Grunter, I pretty much responded to your post via email, but for the viewing audience, I pretty much agreed that it sucked, but reiterated the need to meet the needs of the rest of the members, which I pretty much said in the sticky in Movie Talk.

I'll see if I can get this to happen, but no promises.

I have no intention of posting in any of the <B>Star Wars</B> threads, mainly because most people lose all capacity for rational thought when a movie like this comes out. Either they ignore the flaws and proclaim it the greatest thing ever, or they backlash against it and won't shut up about how stupid everything associated with the franchise is. Regardless, I don't find those discussions enjoyable.

But others do, and more power to them. It's a huge movie. It's a huge franchise. As long as there aren't any dupes, let the discussions continue. Frankly the thought of talking about or hearing about <B>Star Wars</B> anymore makes me sick, but guess what ... I don't have to read those threads if I don't want to.

I agree. I saw the movie yesterday but refuse to goto the movie forum. It was bad enough from the reviews in IMDB.

I moved all the appropriate threads.

Also, keep in mind, this is just a temporary forum.

Thanks Geoff!

I demand a <B>Big Trouble in Little China</B> sub-forum. Thank you in advance.

P.S. This was probably a good move, though I fear with so many <B>Star Wars</B> fans gathered in one place, there may be an attack.

I know (well, I'm pretty sure ) you're joking, but just to nip this talk in the bud, allow me to quote from the Movie Talk thread explaining what's going on with the Star Wars threads:
If this works out well, we're likely to do it again for any movie that generates this much interest. Just remember that on 5/15, we were up to about 20 threads on the front page, and received complaints when we had too many threads, and also received complaints when we tried to restrict the number. So this will be a fairly uncommon event.

Well, with something as big as this, it has to go before the whole committee, be sent out for a cost/benefit analysis by our cost accountants, and then back to committee, then to a steering committee to decide who would be best to start handling the inquiries into the proper district in which to place such a forum, who to develop, vet, and massage the various new rules and regulations such a forum would require, and after that, it's got to go back to committee again....

There's a lot more, but tell you what...go get Form A12#-#25-B Parts 2 & 3b from Requisitions, fill it out in triplicate (both front and back), then submit it to the correct department and we'll consider passing that along to the first committee some time in the next forum request cycle.

Thanks! And have a nice day!

Things look a lot more complicated around here now. Looks like I left at a good time.

Me? Surely you jest.

For the record, my demand for an "I Like Cheese" forum in the other thread was a proxy demand from a poster named C00Ki3 (don't worry, he doesn't want an "I Like Cookies" forum, just "I Like Cheese"). Thanks for understanding, and I look forward to many stimulating conversations.

Dairy products also require form B12#-#25-B Parts 1, 3 and addendum CAL. Only in duplicate though.
