is there a way to enable private messaging if the administrador has it not enabled?

it's a standard feature on V-bulletin, but it's not active here.

I think it's a useless feature. It's a messaging system with in a messaging system. The only positive would be cutting down on the conversational threads in other. But that could be accomplished if the mods would close those threads and tell the members to use the sites chat room, or AIM, MSN Messenger, ICQ, Yahoo chat, etc.

But if it doesn't tax the server, then it should be enabled I guess, as people like me who wouldn't use it can turn it off in our User CP.

Actually this is not useless feature (see anantech and ask how freaked everyone got when they limited pm's saved to 100) it is especially great for trading so you don't have to keep emailing back and forth.

another option would be to enable a ICQ, AIM, or Yahoo button to the top of peoples posts. It's enabled in the profiles so we may as well use it.

PM is a great feature, but until we get out from under our bandwidth crunch I can't see implementing it.

Good idea about adding the IM buttons to the posts. I have to tweak the way that the forum does it as the default way shows people's online status and I KNOW that some people do not like having this info displayed.
