Letters to the editor threads.......

I've already emailed 2 mods about this, but this is for all mods now.

There are now 5 of these threads on the first page. At first, they were funny because there were so many of them. Now, they are just downright annoying. They all popup right around the same time and are usually based on the same 4 or 5 topics. This really needs to get under control. I've suggested before, and now I'm suggesting again that he contain them in a daily or weekly thread.

Thoughts? Mods especially.

how about a 'one and only letters to the editor' thread?

I think one to two a day is fine, but he's doing too many.

Like Steve Martin explains in "Planes, Trains & Automobiles", when telling a story, have a point. Not everything is a story, we have to pick and choose the things that are interesting or amusing.

Likewise, not every letter to the editor is a thread. I'm sure Vacaville has a message board for that...or maybe not. The point is, I think the threads would be better-received if Aaron selected those that were most interesting/amusing and most suitable for discussion. It would also help if he didn't just seem to copy and paste the same question regarding the different issue like "Thoughts?"

A good discussion thread needs to have a good beginning and many of these Letters to the Editor threads are just posting the letters and saying Discuss. It'd be better if Aaron picked only a few a week and actually tried to start a discussion.

Those are some of my thoughts...you may not agree. Just some suggestions.

to this thread

Why not have only 1 or 2 letters to the editor threads open at a time?

If more are open than that, they should be closed

Catching and posting all those letters to the editor seems like a sporting event to me.

That always bugged me when I used to go to Other. I've even seen a few of his letter to the editor threads in other forums here when they were some what related to DVD's or something. The bad thing is most of them aren't interesting. As said above he should limit himself to only posting the couple that are really interesting each week, or have a weekly thread or something.

You know, there are sometimes 4-5 sports threads on page 1 of Other...

I don't mind the occasional sports thread, but don't you think 4-5 on the first page is overkill?

(Just a perspective.)

I get tired of the letter to the editor threads too, but as long as it isn't TERRIBLY bad (like one day, there were like 8 in a row and the Mods DID act on that), then we can always ignore them if we don't like them.

but those 5 sports threads are:

1) not started by the same person
2) not started within the same time period
3) discussing different topics
4) often discussing different sports altogether

Not a perfect comparison, I grant you, but again, consider that it MAY be just that you are not interested in letters to the editors threads, just as some may not be interested in sports.

When it gets REALLY bad (and it has), the mods HAVE stepped in.

I don;t have a problem with a few of these or any other kind of threads going on ... I can ignore them easily enough if I choose to. I would think one a day would be enough, if they do not garner interest, they will drop down the topics list quickly enough.

Sports on the other hand needs it's own forum, but this is a different story.

I don't care for them either, but they usually aren't interesting and don't get many replies (hint, hint to poster ) and fade into the bit bucket pretty quickly...

Some (few) are interesting and do get some interaction. Just tough to find the diamond (okay Cubic Zirconia) in the rough

Pick 1 and go from there.
Obviously, he didn't get the hint.

what I don't get is that he doesn't even discuss them, he just posts the text. And the topics aren't even that earth shattering. Perhaps he could pick his favorite letter to the editor and just post that? Or just post a daily link to his local editorial page?

He also tries to stir up a lot of **** sometimes and has no opinion whatsoever other than "Word!". Come on Aaron, you can do better than that! In any event, it sometimes comes off as trolling.

This is the EXACT feelings I have toward his "letter" threads. I think of him as an instigator, because he sometimes brings up touchy subjects...then ducks and hides. Does he read them after he posts them? I know he does on some, but his replies are always very selective.

You know who used to do the exact same thing? American Loser. He would start some topic, usually instigating or some story, then would never follow up on it.

Well put. I would say that very, very few are interesting. I wonder if this poster can have an original thought sometimes.

guy, guys, this isn't a thread to make fun of someone. This was a legitimate thread to complain about something that alot of people seem to dislike. Please no more making fun of forum members.

Grr....that gets annoying. I mean, it's not like DVD Reviews has a lot of other posts, but in some ways, it makes the fact that he can't even post something different for each of his threads even more annoying.

Like the Letters to the Editors threads, I suspect he probably doesn't even go and check on those Reviews threads.
